Phantoms lose in overtime

YOUNGSTOWN — Despite a hard-fought battle, the Youngstown Phantoms (6-16-3-2, 16 points) lost 5-4 in overtime on Saturday night against the Chicago Steel (22-8-2-0) at the Covelli Centre.

Youngstown’s Yusaku Ando scored first, 2:04 into the second period, then Adam Robbins tied the game just over two minutes later. At 7:43, Chicago took the lead when Ian Moore scored on a backhander.

Riley Duran tied the game for the Phantoms on a one-timer, then Youngstown went back in front less than two minutes later when Will Hillman redirected a Mike Brown shot into the net.

Just 1:05 into the third period, Jack Babbage snapped one in with a wrist shot, once again making it a tie game. Over 13 minutes later, Matt Coronato picked off a pass and got a short-handed goal, giving Chicago a 4-3 lead at 14:43.

The game was then tied at 4-4 when Hillman picked up a rebound at the edge of the crease and buried it. The goal was Hillman’s second of the night and fifth of the season.

Chicago’s Coronato scored a power-play goal just 31 seconds into overtime to end the game.
