It’s finally here, the Ohio Sprint Speedweek, nine nights of racing in 10 days as Tony Stewart’s All-Star Circuit of Champions crisscrosses Ohio to the delight of fans from across the country.

The action started July 3 at Attica Speedway and continued the next two days at Fremont Speedway. Wayne County Speedway in Orrville was up next on Monday. After an off night, the event resumes tonight at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex, then moves to Muskingum County Speedway on Thursday and Portsmouth Raceway Park on Friday.

The series concludes right here at Sharon Speedway for a two-day show on Saturday and Sunday.

The 12th annual Lou Blaney Memorial is Saturday with the BRP Tour for Big Block Mods also on hand. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 7.

Sunday night, Sharon’s two-day Speedweek program will conclude with the Justin Snyder’s Salute to the Troops. Veterans with proper ID will get $10 off admission. The RUSH non-wing sprints will complete the program. Again, gates open at 3 with racing at 7. Come on out to see Sprint car racing at its finest.

We lost a local legend with the recent passing of Ralph Quarterson of Hermitage, Pa. Quarterson won over 500 feature events. He was the first champion of the All-Star Circuit of Champions and has been inducted into four racing halls of fame.

He was Mr. Mercer Raceway with 149 career wins in three different classes. He was the Sprint car champion eight time and also was the Modified champion four years in a row 1977-80. He won the famous Western Pennsylvania Sprint car championship five times.

He was one of the nation’s best and will be honored at Michaels Mercer Raceway with the first Ralph Quarterson Western Pa. Championship for 410 Sprint cars. The unsanctioned event will take place July 18. The big block mods will also join the program. Gates open at 4 with racing at 6. This is sure to become an annual huge event.

Get out and support your local race track. Like many other business they are struggling, having lost half their season.
