Former Spartan golfer Kreps transfers to YSU

The Youngstown State men’s golf program has added former Boardman golfer Cade Kreps as a transfer, coach Tony Joy said on Wednesday.

Kreps will enroll at YSU for the 2020 fall semester and have three years of eligibility remaining after two seasons at the University of Akron. After redshirting in 2018-19, he competed in one tournament and three rounds for the Zips in 2019-20.

“We are very fortunate to have Cade come to YSU and join our team,” Joy said. “I actively recruited Cade a few years back so I am very familiar with his golf and academic resume. Being a member of the very successful golf team at Boardman High School, he will be rejoining his former teammates Cole Christman, Bryan Kordupel and Brian Terlesky. With these four outstanding talents, our depth and future looks very bright for the next three to four years.”

At Boardman, Kreps was a four-time first team All-American Conference (AAC) honoree. He was a two-time first team All-Northeast Ohio selection, and helped lead Boardman to the AAC Tournament Championship in 2016.

Kreps qualified for the Division I state tournament three times and had a 36.5 9-hole average as a senior, 37.5 for his Boardman career.
