Sharon Speedway opens

HARTFORD — Dave Blaney started Saturday’s return to Sharon Speedway by winning the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply “410” Sprint Cars race, driving a throwback to his father’s No. 10.

Blaney came from the third starting spot into the lead after one lap and never trailed. He lapped all the way up to the fifth-place car to win a $3,000 payday.

The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer’s 32nd career “410” win and 35th overall at Sharon was preparation for the two-day All Star Circuit of Champions Lou Blaney Memorial and Justin Snyder Salute to the Troops events on July 11-12 that will close out Ohio Speedweek.

Jeremy Weaver won his second RUSH Sprint Cars race Saturday, while Chas Wolbert took first in the HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds. Wolbert, a Warren native, won his 14th career race at Sharon, taking home $500.

Meanwhile, Dustin DeMattia won the Elite Econo Mods. TheMontville drive passed leader Nate Young on Lap 10 to win.
