Gators win baseball opener
AUSTINTOWN — The Eastern Gateway Gators won their baseball home-opening contest on Wednesday at Fitch High School, beating Mercyhurst North East, 11-10.
The game was scheduled as a doubleheader, but the second game was cancelled due to the weather.
Grant Williams, Evan Knaus and Noah Laster each hit home runs for the Gators (2-2), who have now won two consecutive games.
Williams had two hits, four RBIs and a run. Knaus had two hits three RBIs and a run. Relief pitcher Alfredo Cruz picked up his first win of the season.
The Gators host Owens Community College on March 4 in a doubleheader at Austintown Fitch High School. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
