Scrappers win big, 11-1
NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers blew open a 2-1 game in the sixth and seventh innings and defeated West Virginia, 11-1, Sunday in their next-to-last game of the season.
The Scrappers are scheduled to conclude the season today at 1:05, against the Black Bears.
Brayan Rocchio’s two-run home run in the third had the Scrappers ahead 2-1 through five innings on Sunday. MV scored four in the sixth when Yainer Diaz drove home a run, then later scored on a forceout. Joab Gonzalez’s single made it 5-1 and another run scored on a wild pitch.
The Scrappers (36-39) got a two-run homer by Aaron Bracho in the seventh, then got another score on a wild pitch and two more on a Julian Escobedo double.
Hunter Gaddis struck out six in three shutout innings for MV.
