Liberty, Girard, J-M earn wins

Girls basketball

¯ LIBERTY 70, CAMPBELL 20: CAMPBELL — Demi Watson led a balanced scoring attack and 10 Leopards dented the scoring column as the visitors roughed up the Red Devils early and then cruised.

Watson scored 15 points, Cianna Smith scored 13 and Allyson Jones contributed 11. Mia Parker added nine points.

Campbell got nine points from Camill Marshall.

¯ GIRARD 40, HUBBARD 30: GIRARD — Girard’s Sophie Griffith scored nine of her 17 in the first half, and the Indians had eight people score in a big second quarter as they cruised past Hubbard in a Northeast-8 Conference clash.

Griffith paced all scorers and sank the only 3-pointer of the contest. She was the only Girard player to reach double figures in points, but nine players scored overall for the Indians (1-0, 1-0).

Sophie Murphy led Hubbard (0-1, 0-1) with 13 points. She made 7-of-9 free throws.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 65, WATERLOO 61 (OT): NORTH JACKSON — The host Blue Jays trailed 42-39 entering the fourth quarter before forging a 53-all tie to push the the MVAC-Scarlet Tier contest into overtime where they used a 12-8 scoring advantage to earn the victory.

Ava Darney scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Kylie Wilson scored 18 points for Jackson Milton (5-4 overall). Camryn Mitchell added 11 points and Paige Grope supplied four assists.

Brooke Waldeck scored 23 points for the Vikings (0-2) and Kaira Dnglish had 18 points.

¯ SEBRING 55, MINERAL RIDGE 51: SEBRING — The visiting Rams had difficulty containing the Trojans’ big trio in a tightly-contested game.

Emma Whaley (24), Aebi D’Ostroph (14) and Devyn Reggi (11) combined to score all but six of the hosts’ points.

Candace Miller scored 18 points to fuel Mineral Ridge, while osie Nolder and Courtney Boyer added 10 points apiece.

¯ MAPLEWOOD 50, HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN 17: MECCA — The host Rockets used a 15-4 scoring advantage in the second quarter to take a 25-11 halftime lead and rolled a they outscored the Lions 25-6 after intermission.

Marissa Ventura netted 18 points and Baylie Starcher added 12 points. Hannah Gaylog had 11 rebounds and Maplewood had a 47-13 cushion on the boards.

Madi Matthews scored 10 points and snagged six rebounds for the Lions.

Maplewood plays at Bristol on Wednesday.

¯ LOUISVILLE 55, FITCH 27: LOUISVILLE — The Falcons were led by Zayda Creque who had seven points in a road loss to Louisville.

Chelsie Wheeler added six and Jocelyn Jourdan paced Fitch with five.

¯ STRUTHERS 47, LAKEVIEW 34: CORTLAND — Heike Kaurschill scored 11 points, leading the Wildcats to a victory over Lakeview.

Struthers held Lakeview to zero points in the third quarter.

Ella Croyle scored 10 points for the Wildcats. The Bulldogs were led by Maggie Pavlansky who had a game-high 18.

¯ CRESTVIEW 49, BEAVER 24: COLUMBIANA — Krista Perry led the Rebels with 21 points in a win over Beaver Local.

Crestview had seven 3-pointers with Perry scoring three in the victory. Ashton Hughes, who finished the night with eight points, had two.

¯ JEFFERSON 49, NILES 15: NILES — Arissa Johnson scored five points for the Red Dragons in a loss to Jefferson.

Freshman Maddie Davis scored four points.

¯ McDONALD 58, SPRINGFIELD 33: McDONALD — Sophia Constantino scored a game-high 21 points to guide the Blue Devils to a victory.

Constantino led McDonald with 21 points, Molly Howard scored 15 and Lucia Wolford added eight.

The Tigers were led by Jacey Mullen who had 17 points.
