Fitch, Ursuline girls win; East boys triumph

¯ FITCH 44, EAST 33: YOUNGSTOWN — The Falcons picked up their second win of the year battling off a fourth quarter rally from East.

The Golden Bears outscored Fitch 11-4 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons built up a 40-22 lead heading into the final frame.

Leading for Fitch was Chelsie Wheeler who scored 18 points. Jocelyn Jourdan scored 10.

Samair Colon scored 10 points for East.

¯ URSULINE 72, BADGER 44: YOUNGSTOWN — The Fighting Irish held Badger to a single point in the second quarter and nine points in the fourth while scoring double-figures in each to pull away and beat the Braves.

Alayna Smith and Anisah Moorman led the way with 19 and 18 points respectively. Cara McNally paced Ursuline with 13 points.

Calena Jablonski scored 13 points for the Braves and Katie Grexa added 10.

¯ STOW 54, CANFIELD 35: CANFIELD — The Cardinals were held under 10 points in each of the first three quarters and dropped a non-league contest to Stow.

Alyssa Dill and Abby Muckleroy led Canfield with eight points each. Marissa Ieraci followed up with six.

¯ POLAND 66, GIRARD 37: POLAND — The Bulldogs move to 9-1 on the year and 4-0 in the Northeast-8 after a win over Girard Monday.

Jackie Grisdale scored a game-high 23 points to lead Poland. 12 players for Poland registered points on the night.

Allison Durkin led the Indians with 11.

¯ STRUTHERS 54, JEFFERSON 41: STRUTHERS — Chloe Neider scored 21 points for the Wildcats in a league win over Jefferson.

Neider had a game-high with Kaylei Shaffer adding 11. Neider and Heike Kaurschill each scored twice from beyond the arc.

¯ SOUTH RANGE 67, HUBBARD 19: HUBBARD — Izzy Lamparty scored 25 points for the Raiders in a huge win over Hubbard Monday night.

Lamparty’s 25 was a game-high and was followed up by Lexi Giles and Gabby Lamparty who scored 10 each.

South Range held Hubbard under double-figures in each quarter, keeping them under five points in each of the first three quarters.

¯ LIBERTY 65, CRESTVIEW 51: COLUMBIANA — Four Leopards reached double-figures as Liberty picks up a road win against Crestview.

Demi Watson led the team with 22 points. Cianna Smith scored 17, Aaliyah Foster scored 14 and Allyson Jones added 10.

Leading for Crestview was Krista Perry who scored 18 points. Mara Halas paced the Rebels with 12.

¯ BROOKFIELD 59, CAMPBELL 36: CAMPBELL — Brookfield remained undefeated Monday after a win of Campbell.

Sophia Hook led the Warriors with 13 points. Katie Gibson scored 12 and Audrey Reardon added 11.

Cayla Marshall led Campbell with a game-high 19 points.

Brookfield moves to 5-0 on the year and 2-0 in the league.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 50, SPRINGFIELD 46: NORTH JACKSON — Longtime Jackson-Milton coach Pat Keney earned his 400th win in a thrilling victory over Springfield.

Chelsea Williams led the Blue Jays with 15 points, and Kelsie Taylor registered a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Jacey Mullen led the Tigers with a game-high 19 points and Kylee Kosek paced Springfield with 11.

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 54, MINERAL RIDGE 18: MINERAL RIDGE — The Blue Devils held Mineral Ridge scoreless in the first quarter to pick up their fourth league win.

Olivia Pater led Western Reserve with 17 points and both Danielle Vuletich and Callie Steed added eight.

Candice Miller led the Rams with eight.

¯ LEETONIA 50, LISBON 40: LISBON — Ella Gregorino scored 24 points for the Bears in a win over Lisbon to move to 6-3 on the year.

Gregorino’s 24 points was a game-high and was followed up by Samantha Schneider who scored 11.

Leading for the Blue Devils was Parker Genthorne who had 16 points.

¯ EAST PALESTINE 59, SOUTHERN 36: EAST PALESTINE — Joclyn Fristik scored 26 points to help lead the Bulldogs to a big win over Southern.

Fristik’s 26 points was a game-high. She was followed up on the score sheet by Morgan Rutledge who had 12 and Payton Sherry who scored 11.

Olivia Kerns led the Indians with 14 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

¯ EAST 44, HOWLAND 43: HOWLAND — The Golden Bears outscored Howland 16-10 in the fourth quarter to win a nailbiter.

John Clay led East with 12 points, scoring three of the team’s eight 3-pointers. Rueben Talley added nine points.

Howland was led by Anthony Massucci who scored 15 points.

Both teams are now 1-2.

¯ HEARTLAND 66, LISBON 54: COLUMBIANA — Three Lions scored in double-figures to guide Heartland Christian past Lisbon Monday night.

Jonathan Bertovich and Steven Baker each scored 17 points for the Lions to lead the team. Joey Donofrio scored 16.

Two Blue Devils combined for 52 of the team’s 54 points. Blayne Brownfield scored 30 with Ryan McCullough scoring 22.
