Fitch, Canfield girls earn wins

Girls basketball

¯ FITCH 50, STRUTHERS 42: AUSTINTOWN — Zayda Creque scored 27 points for the Falcons as Fitch picks up their first win of the season over Struthers.

The Falcons outscored Struthers 19-5 in the first quarter and the Wildcats returned the favor in the second, outscoring Fitch 16-7 in the second.

Leading for Struthers was Chloe Neider with 13 points and Heike Kaurschill with 11.

¯ CANFIELD 42, MOONEY 33: CANFIELD — Summer Sammarone scored 11 points for Canfield in a win over Mooney.

The Canfield defense shut Mooney’s offense down, keeping every player under double figures. Leading for Mooney were Katie Hough and Gia DiVincenzo, each with nine points.

Sammarone led Canfield with 11 points, Abby Muckleroy scored 10 and Alyssa Dill added nine.

¯ CRESTVIEW 55, EAST LIVERPOOL 42: EAST LIVERPOOL — Krista Perry scored 20 points for the Rebels in a big road win over East Liverpool.

Perry did most of her damage from the foul line, going 12-of-15 from the stripe. She led the team with Addison Bandy following up with 10 and Trinity Miller adding nine.

Crestview led 19-8 after the first quarter and kept their foot on the gas.

¯ McDONALD 75, JACKSON-MILTON 39: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Devils had a spectaclar first half and rolled to the MVAC-Scarlet Tier victory over the host Blue Jays.

McDonald playing its second game of the season, scored 21 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second to post a 49-17 lead. Molly Howard scored 22 points and made four 3-pointers. Lucy Wolford scored 18 points and Sophia Constantino added 15.

Ava Darney led Jackson-Milton with 13 points and Kelsie Taylor supplied 10 points.

Boys basketball

¯ STRUTHERS 66, JEFFERSON 51: STRUTHERS — The host Wildcats had fast starts in each half to cruise to the Northeast-8 Conference victoryover the visiting Falcons.

Struthers used an 18-10 first-quarter scoring advanatge and outscored Jefferson 17-8 in the third period.

Trey Metzka netted 18 points and Ronnie Leonard scored 15 to fuel the Wildcats, who improved to 7-0 overall.

Stephen Ray’s 18 points led winless Jefferson (0-4).

¯ GRAND VALLEY 57, LEETONIA 53: LEETONIA — A fourth quarter rush of 21 points propelled the Mustangs past Leetonia Wednesday.

Nate Boiarski led Grand Valley with 22 points. Ethan Spencer scored 13 and Caden Vetty added nine.

Leading for the Bears was Dylan Lennon who also scored 22. Ian Davis scored 15 and Jaeden Finley added eight.
