OHSAA puts tentative plan in place

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has made a contingent plan, but only if schools return in early May, according to a memo to member schools superintendents, principals and athletic administrators.

The mandatory no-contact period remains until May 1. No practices or group workouts may occur. However, electronic communication is permitted to maintain correspondence, provide workouts and other details to individuals.

The OHSAA said the following dates are tentative and pending school re-opens on May 4. The organization will adjust accordingly. If for any reason specific sites are shut down due to the governor’s orders, all sites will be closed and a tournament will not be held.

The following are tournament plans for each spring sports:

Baseball sectionals would be May 23-30, districts June 1-6, regionals June 11-12 and the state tournament would be June 19-21.

Softball sectionals would be May 30-June 6, districts June 8-13, regionals June 15-20 and the state tournament would fall on June 25-27.

Lacrosse regional qualifying would be May 26-30, regional quarterfinals June 1-4, regionals June 4-7, state semifinals June 8-10, while the state finals would be June 13.

Boys tennis sectionals would be May 30-June 6, districts June 8-13, while the state tournament would be June 18-20.

Track and field districts would be June 9-13, regionals June 17-20, while state would be June 26-27.
