Chaney dumps Irish; Poland, Girard win in NE-8

¯ CHANEY 77, URSULINE 60: YOUNGSTOWN — Chaney had a strong first quarter which built up enough of a lead to fend off Ursuline.

The Cowboys outscored Ursuline 22-8 in the first quarter and despite the Fighting Irish offense beginning to click, Chaney maintained the edge.

Cameron Lawrence led the Cowboys with 20 points. Sharrod Taylor scored 15 and William Brown added 10.

¯ POLAND 67, HUBBARD 34: HUBBARD — Michael Cougras abd Michael Gordon combined for 30 points as the Bulldogs downed the host Eagles in a Northeast-8 Conference contest.

Poland led 18-9 after one period, 37-18 at halftime and 53-25 entering the final quarter. Stephen Carney added eoght points for the Bulldogs, who improved their records to 7-3 overall and 6-0 in the loop.

Andrew Frank scored 12 points and Cam Resatar added nine points for Hubbard, which saw its ledger drop to 3-9 and 1-5.

¯ GIRARD 56, SOUTH RANGE 53: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — The Indians used a strong second quarter to cap off the upset victory over South Range.

Girard outscored the Raiders 17-9 in the second quarter which built up an eight-point lead going into the half. They were outscored in the second half, but that eight-point lead was crucial as they held on to win.

Thomas Cardiero led the Indians with 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Christian Graziano scored 13 and Dom Malito added 10.

Chris Brooks scored 20 points for South Range.

¯ LOVE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 57, EAST 38: YOUNGSTOWN — A dominant first quarter for Love Christian Academy doomed the Golden Bears as they fall to 3-9.

East was outscored 26-10 in the first quarter which built up a deficit they couldn’t escape. The Golden Bear defense was able to slow down Love Christian after the first quarter, but it was too late.

John Clay led East with 14 points.

¯ LIBERTY 67, CAMPBELL 54: LIBERTY — The Leopards outscored Campbell by 13 in the fourth quarter to get their third league win of the year.

Liberty outscored the Red Devils 22-15 in the final period to build on its lead and get the win.

Leading for the Leopards was James Davis who had 25 points. Jameer Weaver added 12.

Kayvon Moore led Campbell with 20 points.

¯ SPRINGFIELD 87, LOWELLVILLE 47: LOWELLVILLE — Drew Clark and Evan Ohlin each scored 20 points for the Tigers in a big win over Lowellville.

Clark and Ohlin 20 points led the team with Beau Brungard scoring 18 points, Clay Medvec scoring 11 and RJ Smith adding 10.

The Springfield offense got off to a hot start going into halftime with a 44-16 lead. They went on to score 43 more points.

Anthony Lucente led the Rockets with 21 points.

¯ McDONALD 90, WESTERN RESERVE 41: BERLIN CENTER — Zach Rasile reaches ever closer to Vienna’s Rex Leach in a 43-point affair

Rasile now sits at 2,557 total points, 10th all-time in scoring. With 24 points, Rasile will jump all the way up to sixth and tie with Leach. Once Rasile reaches that mark, he has to pass LeBron James to be in the top 5.

The McDonald offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Western Reserve 30-9 to establish a massive lead going into the break. They continued to pile the points on in the second half to get the win.

Jake Portolese followed Rasile up on the scoreboard, finishing with 16 points. Eli Street had 13 points and Dominic Carkido added 11.

¯ MINERAL RIDGE 70, JACKSON-MILTON 59: NORTH JACKSON — The visiting Rams outscored Jackson-Milton 16-5 from the free-throw line and that margin proved to be the difference.

Both teams made six 3-pointers in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference contest and both had four players score in double digits.

Mineral Ridge got 16 points from Miles Culp, 14 apiece from Jalen Royal-Eiland and Maurice Clark and 12 from Austin Governor in improving its records to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Mason Robison scored a game-high 19 points for the Blue Jays, who dropped to 4-10 and 1-7. Cole Grope scored 12 points, Nick McGinnis had 11 points and Gavin Sahli added 10 points.

¯ WEST BRANCH 61, SALEM 39: SALEM — Reese Leone passed the 1,000 points in a career mark for the Warriors in a big win over rival Salem.

Leone now has 1,007 total points over the span of his career. He led the team with 17 points. Nick Everett also scored 17 points. Jaxon Hendershot added 12 points.

West Branch is now leading the Eastern Buckeye Conference with a 5-1 league record and 10-3 overall. They were tied with Carrollton for the lead.

¯ COLUMBIANA 60, LISBON 48: COLUMBIANA — The host Clippers used a 19-5 socring advantage in the second period en route to winning a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference battle.

Sean Whitehead poured in 23 points and Hunter Zenter supplied nine as the Clippers improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the league. Lisbon, which was looking to force a tie atop the league standings, fell to 4-2 in the league.

Ryan McCullough scored 19 points and Gaige Rohm added 18 for the Red Devils, who fell to 5-8 overall.

¯ CRESTWOOD 78, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 58: MANTUA — The Eagles played Crestwood close, but were heavily outscored in the second quarter to fall by 20.

Valley Christian trailed by five going into the second quarter, but the Eagles were outscored 21-6 as the Red Devils pulled away.

Lohron Brown led the team with 17 points. Mark Revere added 12.

¯ HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN 60, EAST PALESTINE 59: EAST PALESTINE — In the end, the host Bulldogs couldn’t quite overcome a 47-40 deficit entering the fourth quarter, as they went 8-for-16 from the free-throw line.

East Palestine did outscore Heartland Christian by 14 points from the stripe as it finished 17-for-26 on freebies. Johnathan Bertovich scored 25 points and Zion Figley and Tyler Bistarkey both added 10 points for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 4-7 overall.

Heartland Christian got 17 points from Steven Baker and 15 from Joey Donofrio.

¯ COLUMBIANA 47, LISBON 42: COLUMBIANA — Grace Hammond scored 17 points for the Clippers to help push them past Lisbon in a nailbiting win.

Hammond had a team-high 17 points for Columbiana and Kayla Muslovski added 13.

The Clippers went into the half with a three-point lead and were able to chip away in the second half to give them a five-point advantage when the final buzzer rang.

Maddie Liberati scored a game-high 18 points for Lisbon. Izzy Perez added 17.
