WR edges Jackson-Milton; Fitch, Ursuline win

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 46, JACKSON-MILTON 45: NORTH JACKSON — The two teams were tied going into the fourth quarter in the rivalry tilt between Jackson-Milton and Western Reserve, but it was the Blue Devils who came out with the win.

Western Reserve got to the free throw line more and made more shots to get the upper hand. The Blue Devils went 11-14 from the charity stripe compared to the Blue Jays who went 7-12.

Noah Klasic scored 17 points on the night and sank four decisive free throws in the final quarter.

AJ Bouch led Jackson-Milton with 13.

¯ AUSTINTOWN FITCH 67, TALLMADGE 64: AUSTINTOWN — Despite a late push from Tallmadge in the fourth quarter, the Falcons held on for a nailbiting victory.

Fitch went into the fourth quarter with a 55-49 lead which was just enough to survive a surge by the Blue Devils.

Kris Brown led Fitch with 25 points. Brown hit five shots from behind the arc. Todd Simons added 18 points.

For Tallmadge, Brandon Heigelmann put up a dominant performance, scoring 36 points. He scored nine in the final quarter.

¯ URSULINE 59, HOWLAND 52: HOWLAND — The Tigers played it close but a solid fourth quarter run pushed Ursuline ahead for the win.

DaSean Harris led the Irish with 18 points. Both Brady Shannon and Terrance Pankey added 13. Harris drained four 3-pointers and Pankey hit three.

Leading for the TIgers was Cam Durig with 16 points and Jordan Sperling added 15.

¯ SEBRING 58, MINERAL RIDGE 56: MINERAL RIDGE — Getting to the free throw line 12 more times than Mineral Ridge made the difference for the Trojans picking up their first league win of the year.

Sebring went 13-21 from the line compared to the Rams’ 8-9.

Austin Governer led the Rams with 19 points and Jalen Royal-Eiland had 10.

Leading for the Trojans was Carson Rouse with 16 points. Jake Hunter had 15 and Gabe Lanzer added 14.

¯ ROOTSTOWN 67, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 58: ROOTSTOWN — A 23-point fourth quarter wasn’t enough for the Eagles as they fall to Rootstown.

Going into the fourth quarter, Valley Christian was down by 20. They scored 23 points, but allowed 12 from Rootstown so the Rovers were able to maintain the lead.

Leading for Valley Christian was T. Lindsey with 13 points. Lohron Brown and Sekov Stanley each had 10.

¯ EAST PALESTINE 53, LEETONIA 52: LEETONIA — East Palestine rallied to defeat the host Bears as Johnathan Bertovitch scored 19 points and three Bears scored in double digits.

Leetonia led 26-22 at halftime and 40-34 entering the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs closed with a 17-12 push to get over the edge and hold off the Bears. Zion Figley scored 12 points for East Palestine and Brandon Turcola added 11.

Leetonia was led by Ian Davis, who scored 18 points and Dylan Lennon chipped in with 11 points.

¯ HUBBARD 51, NILES 45: HUBBARD — Cam Resatar netted 26 points and Chanze Kelley added 12 points as the host Eagles slipped past Niles to improve to 1-1.

The Red Dragons fell to 1-3 with their third close loss. Doug Foster scored 12 points, as did Smith. Chase Sudzina and Jacob Eakin tallied eight points apiece.

¯ LAKEVIEW 55, SOUTH RANGE 44: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — The Bulldogs had 10 3-points to pass over the Raiders.

Brendon Kilpatrick had a team-high 19 points, while Ryan Carnahan added 13 for Lakeview. Each had three 3-pointers.

Chris Brooks paced South Range with a game-high 24 points. No other Raider was in double figures.

South Range was limited to 1 of 2 from the foul line, while the Bulldogs struggled — going 9 of 22.
