Canfield advances to LL state final

Canfield defeated North Canton 7-3 on Thursday at the Fields of Dreams in Boardman to advance to today’s Little League 12U baseball state championship game vs. West Side.

The final will be played on Field L1 at 12 p.m. If Canfield wins, a second game will be played at approximately 2 p.m.

Ravens cut rookie QB Diego Pavia

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens waived quarterback Diego Pavia on Thursday, just a day before rookies were to report to training camp.

Pavia, the Heisman Trophy runner-up last season at Vanderbilt, signed as an undrafted free agent in April.

Cuban buys stake in Athletics

LAS VEGAS — An investment group that includes ex-Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has bought a minority stake in the Athletics in anticipation of their move to Las Vegas in 2028.

Thursday’s announcement by Harbinger Sports Group did not say what percentage of the Athletics it had acquired. Cuban, who maintains a minority stake in the Mavericks, is the general partner and president of the Atlanta-based group. Atlanta Falcons minority owner Rashaun Williams is the founder and chief investment officer.

John Fisher is the majority owner of the A’s and is overseeing construction of a $2 billion, 33,000-capacity domed stadium on the Las Vegas Strip.
