SOFTBALL
DIVISION III PLAYOFFS
Howland 24, Chaney 0 — The top of Howland’s lineup was deadly, tallying 15 of the team’s 24 hits. Madison Schmitz, Makenna Perry and Maya Kubancsek had five hits each for the Tigers. Kubancsek drove in seven runs and homered twice. Perry and Schmitz also homered and had four and three RBIs, respectively. Michelina Wayt and Marissa Ray added two hits and two RBIs each, Brooklyn VanNess and Olivia Lambert had a hit and an RBI each and Ella Newbrough had two hits for Howland.
DIVISION IV PLAYOFFS
Niles 30, Lutheran West 6 — 11 different Niles players had at least one hit and seven had multi-hit games. Mia Myers led the way with five hits and seven RBIs, including a home run. Julie Burke drove in five runs with two hits and Lydiah Taylor had three hits and three RBIs for the Dragons. Burke was also the starting pitcher, striking out 10 in four innings.
DIVISION V PLAYOFFS
Champion 10, Garrettsville Garfield 0 — Carly Dyer led Champion with a pair of hits and Jonna Strock drove in three runs for the Flashes. Hrabek had two hits for Garfield.
From Wednesday
Southeast 10, Columbiana 4 — Lily Hayes and Bailey Morris combined for four hits and three RBIs for Southeast. Morgan Muncy drove in three runs with a hit and Neena Truex had three hits and an RBI. Ella Eisenbraun had three hits and a pair of RBIs for Columbiana, including a home run.
DIVISION VII PLAYOFFS
Chalker 17, Leetonia 1 — Abby Grimm had two hits, including a home run and seven RBIs for Chalker. Tatum Hudak added two hits and an RBI and struck out seven for the Wildcats. Holly Roosa also had a pair of hits and an RBI and Alaynah Cox had a hit with two RBIs. Riley Ashcraft struck out five in two innings of relief and had a hit and an RBI on offense and Harley Griffeth also had a hit and an RBI for the Wildcats.
REGULAR SEASON
Hubbard 21, Cleveland Central Catholic 0 — Haleigh Taylor pitched a perfect five inning game, striking out 16 with no walks or errors. Taylor also belted a home run, totaling three hits and five RBIs. Morgan Thompson added two hits and four RBIs as the Eagles rolled. Ashley Masluk and Layla Songer drove in two runs with a hit each and Makenna Killin had a hit and an RBI.
Maplewood 2, Edgewood 1 — Maplewood broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 7th inning with a walk off hit. Addison Marker had two hits and an RBI for the Rockets. Marker also went the distance at pitcher, striking out 16. Lucianna Paolillo struck out nine for Edgewood.
South Range 8, Akron Hoban 1 — A. Aey had two hits and two RBIs, including a home run for South Range. S. Brogan drove in two runs with a hit and A. Thompson and S. DeJesus had a hit and an RBI each for the Raiders. K. Dance had three hits.
Austintown Fitch 8, Painesville Riverside 0 — Fitch (22-0) wrapped up an undefeated regular season in dominant fashion. Mila Hamley struck out 11, allowing just one hit for the Falcons. Morgan Roby had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Seneca Coated doubled and drove in two runs and Lily Stevens and Abby Toth added two hits and an RBI each.
Columbiana 6, Jackson-Milton 1 — Ella Eisenbraun recorded her 100th career strikeout in a three inning game. No other stats were provided.
BASEBALL
Cardinal Mooney 6, Louisville 3 — Todd Jones had three hits and drove in two runs for Mooney. Kaden Reese and Ben Oddis added two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, who pulled away with two runs in the sixth inning. Andrew Busher also came up big, driving in two runs with a double.
Ursuline 3, Mineral Ridge 0 — The Ursuline trio of CJ Snyder, Dom Monroe and Rowan Urbach had a hit and an RBI each. GianLuca Aurilio also had a hit for the Irish and Drew Nemtz struck out four. Nick Anderson had five strikeouts for Mineral Ridge.
South Range 12, McDonald 0 — Cooper Martz led South Range with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Gavin Hiscox added two hits and an RBI, including a double. Brennen Klasovsky and Mark Aey also had a hit and an RBI and Aey got the start at pitcher, striking out four.
Badger 11, East 4 — Jack Harnett totaled two hits and three RBIs for Badger. Ernie Cunningham also drove in three runs with a hit for the Braves. James Walker added a hit and an RBI and Henry Flowers had two hits. Alexis Delgado had two hits and an RBI for East.
Springfield 18, East Palestine 1 — Bruno LaRocca paced Springfield with three hits and four RBIs, including a double. Ben Carlos added three hits and three RBIs and Noah Troggio had three hits for the Tigers. Alex Fusco and Jaxon Minetti also had a pair of hits each for the Tigers.
Canfield 7, Poland 5 — Canfield won their 10th game in a row, led by Jake Dovich with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Alex Groner also drove in two runs with two hits, including a home run for the Cardinals, who broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning to pull away, scoring two runs. Logan Patellis and Michael Maszczak added a hit and an RBI each and Ryan Weibling pitched 4.1 innings, striking out seven. For Poland, Zach Marantis had two hits and two RBIs and Carmine Tukalo had three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Howland 6, Salem 5 (8 inn.) — Howland won on a walk off when Brayden Kovarik drew a walk with the bases loaded. Kovarik and Terri Werner had two hits each for the Tigers. Werner also had two RBIs. Bairon Exline drove in two runs for Salem and Brandon Van Dyne and Jaxson Douglas had two hits each.
BOYS LACROSSE
DIVISION I PLAYOFFS
Avon 17, Boardman 3 — Avon jumped out to an 8-0 first quarter lead and Boardman was unable to recover. Luke DeJoseph, Daniel Ramovs and Tyler Holcomb had a goal each for the Spartans. Lane Schubert made 11 saves in goal.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
DIVISION II PLAYOFFS
Amherst Steele 3, Howland 2 — Howland (19-5) fell to Amherst Steele 5-23, 28-30, 16-25, 25-23 and 5-15. The Tigers were led by Evan Neely with 38 assists and 11 points. Wesley Fee added 20 kills, two blocks and three aces and Carter Jones had 16 kills. Freddy Rivera had an all around performance for the Tigers with 14 digs, nine points and three aces.
