BASEBALL
Mathews 13, Liberty 3 (5 inn.) — The Mustangs were consistent, scoring exactly three runs in four of the five innings. Jared Pegg and Caleb Nicula each had two hits for the Mustangs, and Caden Brown drove in three as Pegg finished with two RBIs. Maurice Fason doubled and singled for the Leopards. Dameon Capan was the winning pitcher, striking out one and walking two. Zaid Amireh took the loss after walking five and punching out one.
Sevier County (Tenn.) 9, Canfield 8 — Sevier County scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off the Cardinals. Joey Gabriel drove in a game-high five RBIs while singling and doubling and scoring once. Anthony Groner was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Jake Dovich was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jackson Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Logan Patellis took the loss by surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
FRIDAY
Lakeview 10, Dixon (N.C.) 3 — The Bulldogs gave up a run in the top of the first inning, but they responded with six in the home half. Hayden Newton went 3-for-4, including a home run and a double, with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Lakeview. Jozef Kuchcinski was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Jacob Shaker singled and doubled with two RBIs and a run scored and Jackson Stuart singled twice and scored three times. Blake Swinning picked up the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out one in five innings pitched.
Abingdon (Va.) 13, Lakeview 2 (5 inn.) — Lakeview trailed 3-2 through one inning, but the Falcons broke the game open with five runs in the second and five more in the fifth. Jackson Stuart tripled, and Jozef Kuchcinski, Isaiah Lantz, Hayden Newton and Nathan Paolucci each singled. Kuchcinski and Paolucci both had an RBI, and Lantz and Newton both scored. Matthew Leonard took the loss after allowing eight runs – six earned – on six hits and five walks in 2 1/3 innings in the start.
SOFTBALL
West Branch 10, Poland 3 — The Bulldogs and Warriors combined for 29 hits, but West Branch took advantage and pushed runners across. Sara Schmidt led the Warriors with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double, with two RBIs and a run scored. Camryn Wike went 3-for-3 with a run scored, Ellie Tucker was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Maylin Hartzell singled twice with an RBI and a run scored, Zoey Carreon singled with two RBIs and scored once, Carly Loper doubled and scored and Layla Carreon and Zoe Metzger both singled with an RBI and a run scored. For Poland, Avery Jakubovic went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Ali Blinsky also went 3-for-4 and scored, Madison Medvec was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Leanna Boccieri doubled and scored and Kilaney Berendt singled twice.
