High School Sports Roundup from April 3

SOFTBALL

Lakeview 11, Woodrow Wilson (W. Va.) 3 — A five-run fourth inning powered by a Rylee Barnot two-run single powered Lakeview to victory. The Bulldogs had 15 hits in total, led by Barnot with three. Mackenzie Stowe added two hits and three RBI’s including a triple. Isabella Isenberg and Annaliese Dejulio also had two hits and combined to drive in three runs with Isenberg bringing home two.

LaBrae 10, Badger 1 — Riley Rowe had two doubles and a single to lead the LaBrae offense. Rowe also commanded the bump, striking out 10. Leah DeArmitt added two hits and three RBI’s for the Vikings. Morgan Thompson and Madison Johnson drove in two runs and had a hit each. Samantha Bradbury had a hit and an RBI for Badger.

Struthers 10, Crestwood 9 — No stats were provided.

BASEBALL

Canfield 11, Unicoi County (Tenn.) 7 — Anthony Groner had three hits including a home run and a double and drove in four runs to lead Canfield in the first half of a Friday doubleheader. Jake Dovich also had a big game for the Cardinals, tallying four hits and three RBI’s.

Canfield 6, Unicoi County (Tenn.) 4 — Canfield (3-1) jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and was able to hang on against Unicoi County (12-5) out of Tennessee in gam two of a double header. Jake Dovich powered the Cardinals with two hits and an RBI. Patrick Groner added a hit and an RBI for the Cardinals and Logan Patellis also drove in a run.

Niles 8, Brookfield 7 — Niles (1-3) trailed 7-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Dragons found a way to pull out their first win of the season. Vincent Dennis had two hits and three RBI’s for the Dragons. Brennen Hodge added two hits and an RBI and Mason Burns and Brian Parsons had a hit and RBI each. For Brookfield, Bray Coleman and Blake Hammond had three hits and an RBI each Joe Hook had two hits and an RBI.

Mineral Ridge 13, Brookfield 0 — Jackson Geddes and Ethan Vestorsky had two hits and two RBI’s each to lead Mineral Ridge (1-2) to their first win of the season. Ben Crumbacher and Xavier Klamath added two hits and an RBI each for the Rams. Klamer also pitched a complete game, striking out nine and allowing just two hits.

LaBrae 10, Hickory (Pa.) 6 — Landon Brunstetter had two hits and two RBI’s for LaBrae. He also pitched two innings, striking out five. Austin Rowe, Jacob Simpson, John Kinkade and Noah Majersky all had a hit and an RBI for the Vikings.

Mathews 12, Liberty 0 — Kam Kester got the win for Mathews, striking out five batters. Offensively, the Mustangs were led by Caleb Nicula with a double and three RBI’s. Jake Petak added two hits for Mathews in the shutout win.

Warren G. Harding 17, East 7 — Harding (4-0) stayed unbeaten behind the bat of Demario Hughley. Hughley had a triple and two RBI’d for the Raiders. Daronne Pennock also tripled and Elias Johnson and Kwame Adams had multiple RBI’s each for the Raiders.

Struthers 8, Girard 7 — No stats were provided.

THURSDAY

Greenville (Tenn.) 10, Canfield 0 — Kaine Ricker, Tegan Begley and Sam Thompson had a hit and two RBI’s each for Greenville. Jackson Johnson and Patrick Groner had Canfield’s only hits of the game.

BOYS LACROSSE

Strongsville 14, Boardman 4 — Boardman scored three unanswered goals after trailing 5-0, but it wasn’t enough against a strong Strongsville bunch. Luke DeJoseph led the Spartans with a pair of goals and one was assisted by Chase Zelesnak. Zelesnak also assisted on a goal by Daniel Ramovs.
