Harding looking for new boys coach after Franklin resigns
Warren G. Harding is searching for a new boys basketball coach after Keelyn Franklin resigned. The Warren City School District confirmed his resignation via a press release on Tuesday.
In the press release, Franklin said he was “grateful for the opportunity to lead the program and for the support and leadership he has received throughout his time as coach.”
Franklin added that the decision was not easy and, “It is in the best interest for me and my family at this particular time.”
He was a part of the Raiders’ staff for 11 seasons. He was promoted to head coach in May 2019, and during his time, Harding went 86-72 and 31-25 in a challenging All-American Conference that also features Howland, Canfield, Boardman and Fitch.
The Raiders went 8-14 this past winter, including a 1-7 AAC mark. They fell to North Royalton in the Division II district semifinals.
Harding won the district championship during the 2024-25 season after beating Hudson. The Raiders fell just short in their regional semifinal against Massillon Perry, dropping the meeting 52-52. Perry went on to win the region and advance to the state championship game.
The Raiders advanced to the Division I sectional finals in 2023 and 2024.
Franklin is a 2007 Warren Harding graduate and played under Steve Arnold. Prior to becoming the head coach, he was an assistant coach and coordinator of the Warren Youth Basketball League
“On behalf of the Warren City School District Board of Education and Administration, I support Coach Franklin in his decision. Being a father is his most important role, especially at this critical time with his children growing up so fast,” Warren City School District Superintendent Steve Chiaro said in the press release.
The school district said that it planned to post the position immediately.
