Ursuline’s Jaylen Gunther, Chaney’s Austin Brown among locals to receive all-state honors

The Division I, II and III All-Ohio boys basketball teams were released on Thursday, and two Youngstown standouts got first-team recognition.

Ursuline junior Jaylen Gunther and Chaney junior Austin Brown both made the top team in Division III. It’s the second year in a row that Gunther was named to the first team after he made it in Division IV in 2025.

In addition to Gunther, the Fighting Irish also had sophomore Noah Bell on the second team. The Cowboys also got a second honoree, as senior forward Allen Hill received honorable mention. Hill received honorable mention for the second year in a row.

Two All-American Conference forwards also got postseason honors from the state in Division II. Austintown Fitch senior EJ Giles received special mention, and Warren G. Harding senior Myles Miller got honorable mention. Miller also landed on the honorable mention squad last season.

All of the all-state teams have been released with the announcement of the boys Division I-III teams on Thursday. The boys teams for Division IV-VII were revealed on Wednesday, the girls Division II and III were announced on Tuesday and the girls Division IV-VII came out on Monday.

The Vindicator/Tribune Chronicle coverage area had 65 boys and girls earn a spot on the all-state teams this year.

In addition to the six boys honored on Thursday, there were 29 boys on the teams in Divisions IV-VII. On the girls’ side, five locals were recognized in Divisions II and III, and 25 made the postseason lists in Divisions IV-VII.
