BOYS BASKETBALL
Sectional Finals
Poland 66, Girard 47 — Poland jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and never let Girard get within reach. Carmine Tukalo scored 31 to lead the Bulldogs. Tukalo knocked down three 3-pointers. Nick Nittoli added a pair of threes for Poland and scored 12 points overall. Braxton Sloan led the Girard offense, scoring 19 points and sinking three 3-pointers. AJ Pearson was the only other Indian in double figures with 10 points.
LaBrae 73, Lakeview 70 — Lakeview held a 10-point halftime lead and led 49-42 heading into the fourth quarter but LaBrae relentlessly chipped away at the lead to send the game to overtime tied at 65. The Vikings were led by Austin Rowe. Rowe scored 32 points with 22 of them coming in the second half and overtime. He also knocked down three 3-pointers. Assisting Rowe in the comeback was Jaxson Lancaster who scored 20 points for LaBrae, including four three’s. For Lakeview Isaiah Lantz led with 23 points and four 3-pointers, but was held scoreless in overtime. Asa Lantz and Conor Davin were also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 20 and 12 points respectively.
Cardinal Mooney 52, Southeast 36 — Mooney (12-11) got above .500, picking up a big win over Southeast (18-5) in tournament action. Dante Turner led the Cardinals with 16 points. Gavin Sentner added 11 points and teh duo of Kingston Powell and Grayson Dubos added eight points each. Cohen Richardson and Bradley Dillon scored 10 points each to lead Southeast.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
District Finals
Western Reserve 56, Cornerstone Christian 54 — The Blue Devils staved off a last-second shot by Cornerstone Christian to capture their second straight Division VII district championship on Saturday. Chloeigh Endsley had 18 points to lead Western Reserve, while Kylee Ramsey had 17 points. The Blue Devils now advance to face Seneca East in the Division VII northeast regional semifinal on Thursday at Massillon Perry.
