Champion boys place 14th at state bowling tournament
The Division II bowling championships took place on Friday night at HP Lanes in Columbus.
The Champion boys took 14th with a score of 3,421.
Two locals placed in the top 11 on the boys’ side. Champion senior Mario Humenik finished fifth with a 662 and Chalker sophomore TJ Williams ended the day in 11th with a 645.
For the rest of the Golden Flashes, Kyle Kolat scored 571 for 32nd, Gavin Torok was 74th with a 466 and George Smith came in 85th with a 310.
The Mahoning Valley did not have a team compete in the girls’ tournament, but there was one individual. Struthers senior Maddie Marshall tied for 73rd with a 432.
Napoleon beat Coldwater to win the girls championship, and St. Henry won the boys title after also beating Coldwater.
Coldwater’s Brittany Burden had the top girls score with a 640, and Brooklyn’s Adam Cowper was the top boy with a 729.
The Division I tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at HP Lanes.
The Valley will send the Boardman boys team and Austintown Fitch girls squad.
