BOYS BASKETBALL
Howland 70, Liberty 38 — The Tigers took the odd quarters in dominant fashion. Howland outscored Liberty 21-10 in the first and 22-4 in the third. Every member of the Tigers’ roster scored in the win, with Carter Saul and Steven Bubon leading the way with 11 points each. Aaron Barcely scored 10 points to lead the Leopards, and Maurice Fason added nine points.
LaBrae 70, Struthers 58 — LaBrae jumped out to a 14-point lead by halftime after outscoring the Wildcats 33-19 in the first half. LaBrae’s Angelo Melidona led all scorers with 36 points, and Austin Rowe had a strong day as well with 25 points. Tommy Cole led the Wildcats with 21 points. Jimmy Shaffer added 13 points for Struthers, and Anthony Pastella ended with 10.
Lakeview 54, Maplewood 50 — The game was tied at 41 entering the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs held on for the non-conference victory. Trace Goyzueta scored six of the Bulldogs’ 13 points in the fourth, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Isaiah Lantz added 15 points for Lakeview, and Luke Demsey tallied 12 points. Ethan Nevinski led the Rockets with 13 points, and Steve Manes and Tyson Wooster each had 11.
Austintown Fitch 52, Massillon Perry 41 — The Falcons only held a one-score lead entering the fourth quarter, but they outscored Perry 18-9 in the final frame to pull out the win. EJ Giles scored a game-high 13 points for Fitch, Braden Sallee added 11 and Brady Evans added 10. Nico Martelli led Perry with 10 points.
Cardinal Mooney 54, Canton South 47 — With the Cardinals only ahead by one entering the fourth, Grayson Dubos powered the Mooney attack with six of the team’s 16 points in the final quarter. Dubos finished with 10 points, while Kingston Powell led the Cardinals with 12 points. Canton South’s AJ Benson led all scorers with 18 points.
Rocky River 64, Grand Valley 45 — The Mustangs fell while competing in the OHSAA Shot Clock Classic at Canton Fieldhouse. Carter Turk scored 15 points for the Mustangs, and Solomon Schultz added 13.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Champion 44, Struthers 36 — Brilea Woods suffered an ankle injury for the Golden Flashes, but she came back to score nine of her game-high 12 points in the second half. Julia Boggs and Mackenzie Braham each added 10 points for Champion, which picked up its second win of the year. Natalie Wolikow led the Wildcats with 10 points, and Vivian Marker finished with nine points.
Girard 74, McDonald 34 — The Indians outscored McDonald 28-7 in the second quarter to break the game open. Ally Gassman accounted for 19 of the Indians’ 45 first-half points. Gassman led all scorers with 32 points, Caylee Wilkes chipped in 18 and Janaya Riley finished with 12. Julianna Krumpak was the Blue Devils’ leading scorer with 14 points.
Warren G. Harding 57, Lakeview 39 — Harding controlled the middle quarters, outscoring the Bulldogs 30-19 in the second and third quarters. Akeelha Barnes led all scorers with 17 points for Harding. Sophie Irwin and Mackenzie Stowe both scored seven points for Lakeview.
Berlin Hiland 70, Western Reserve 25 — The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season after Hiland sank 14 3-pointers. Chloeigh Endsley led Western Reserve with nine points. Perrya Mishler scored a game-high 21 points for Hiland.
