BASEBALL
Howland 10, Niles 6 — An offensive outpouring from the Tigers lent a part in the win over the Red Devils. Leading the way for Howland at the plate was Richie Ansel with a double and two more base knocks, Terry Werner doubled, and drove in two runs, Luca Fronzaglio tripled and Bode Biggin drove in three runs and tallied two hits. Rocco Perkins picked up the win in five innings, striking out five, walking four and allowing one hit. For Niles, Connor Duncan was given the loss for Niles in four innings, allowing 10 hits, three walks and striking out one. At the plate for Niles, AJ Yost tallied a pair of singles, RBIs and stolen bases.
Maplewood 11, Chalker 1 — The Maplewood pitching staff kept the Wildcats at bay as the Rockets claimed the win. Tyson Webster earned the win in four innings, striking out five while walking two. At the plate, Webster, Sexton and Shipman each had a pair of hits. Pack was given the loss in two innings, walking seven and striking out two.
Fitch 5, Ursuline 3 — After falling behind by three, the Fitch bats came alive and claimed the win over the Irish. Sparking the come-from-behind win was Owens with a triple, single and two RBIs, Stovall and Jones each lent a pair of singles and Danko had three singles and two RBIs. Owens also picked up the win on the mound, tossing a complete-game three-hitter while striking out six and walking six. For Ursuline, Kosovan was given the loss in six innings, striking out two, walking three and scattering 10 hits.
Mineral Ridge 17, Liberty 3 (5 inn.) — The Rams crossed the plate 12 times in the fifth inning and soared to the win over the Leopards. Charging the offensive showing was Jack Gillie with two hits, Jackson Geddes with a pair of hits, Gavin Harding lent a pair of hits and RBIs and Andrew Gillie drove in two runs. Jimi Nolder picked up the win on the bump, striking out four, walking five and allowing three hits in 3 1/3 innings. Liberty statistics were not submitted.
Warren JFK 13, Rootstown 2 (5 inn.) — The Eagles took the lead early and turned it on in the fourth and fifth innings with 12 runs between the two to topple the Rovers. Kennedy was led at the dish by Lapolla with a pair of singles and three RBIs, Ryan doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Rinck had a trio of singles and RBIs and Morrison doubled and singled. Lapolla picked up the win in five innings, striking out four while allowing two walks and four hits. For the Rovers, Postlethwait doubled. Soika was given the loss in four innings, striking out six while walking three and scattering 10 hits.
Bristol 8, Heartland Christian 4 — The Panthers fell behind by two but regained the lead thanks to five runs in the fifth and held on to topple the Lions. Leading the 12-hit Bristol offense was Kohler with three hits, Miller singled twice, Berry legged a triple, singled and drove in two runs, Imhoff doubled and singled and Thorp lent a double. Williams picked up the win in relief, tossing the final three innings in which he struck out four, walked none and surrendered four hits. In the loss offensively, Bender singled twice and drove in two runs and Farrell and A. Hamilton each lent two singles. Hamilton was also given the loss on the bump in three innings, striking out none, walking none and allowing seven hits.
Crestview 2, Lowellville 1 (6 inn.) — The Rebels took a two run lead after plating two in the third and held off the Rockets’ offense to claim the close contest. Shutting down the Lowellville offense was Julian who went the distance, striking out 10, walking two and allowing four hits to claim the pitcher’s duel. For the Rockets on the bump, Bartlett was given the loss in 5 1/3 innings, striking out two, walking three and allowing three hits.
SOFTBALL
Badger 13, Bristol 2 (5 inn.) — The Badger bats were on fire, plating 13 runs on 18 hits to throttle the Panthers. Every batter for the Braves tallied a base knock but the spark came from Hall with three singles and two RBIs, Bradbury doubled and singled twice, Lindus doubled and drove in two runs, Scharfenberg drove in two runs, Broadwater had a trio of singles and RBIs, Demarco singled three times and Miller singled twice. Bradbury picked up the win in five innings, striking out three, walking three and allowing four hits. For Bristol, Gibson singled twice in the loss. In the circle, Macklin was given the loss, striking out two, walking one and allowing 18 hits.
Mathews 12, Wellsville 2 — The Mustangs throttled the Tigers thanks to an Ashia Pate one-hitter. The fireballer fanned eight in the win in the circle. At the plate for Mathews, Kelsie Newsom tallied three hits, Kennedy Newsom doubled and drove in two runs and Ava Shugart belted a home run and drove in two runs.
Marlington 10, Hubbard 5 — After the Eagles brought the game within one run, the Dukes exploded for three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a commanding lead and never relented to claim the win. In the batter’s box, Marlington was paced by Savage with a pair of triples and a single, Miller doubled and drove in three runs, Bailey doubled and had two RBIs and Martz doubled. Doringo picked up the complete-game win, fanning 12, walking four and allowing nine hits. In the loss, Komorek doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, Warren had a pair of singles and RBIs and Songer and Taylor each doubled. Schultz was given the loss in five innings, striking out six, walking four and allowing six hits.
South Range 23, Orrville 2 (4 inn.) — The Raiders plated six in the first inning and added 11 more an inning later to take a commanding lead and ultimately top the Red Riders. The 18-hit offense was paced by Spooner with four singles and two RBIs, Brogan tripled, Wilt blasted three home runs and drove in a game-high nine runs, Aey left the yard once and singled, Winner homered and had three RBIs, Bartels tripled and singled, Pauline doubled, singled and drove in two runs and DeCiancio legged out a triple. DeJesus was given the win in 3 1/3 innings, striking out five, walking two and allowing two hits. For Orrville at the plate, Evans drove in two runs. Gray was given the loss in three innings, striking out none while walking three and allowing 18 hits.
Fitch 14, Lakeview 5 — The Falcons scored in nearly every inning, capped by five runs in the final frame to topple the Bulldogs. Leading the way for Fitch at the plate was Ray with a double and single, Rodgers lent a pair of singles, Toth added a trio of singles and RBIs, Folkwein doubled and singled and Coates doubled and singled twice. Fedorek picked up the complete-game win, striking out three while allowing a walk and 11 hits. In the loss, Bartlett tripled and had a pair of singles and RBIs, Stowe eclipsed the 100 career hit mark with two singles and RBIs, Barnot added a pair of singles while Dejulio and Collins both doubled. Isenberg was given the loss in four innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing nine hits. Isenberg also picked up career strikeout number 200 in the loss.
Maplewood 19, St. Thomas Aquinas 2 — The Rockets set the tone early with 11 runs in the opening frame and sailed to the win over the Knights. The high-powered offense was charged by Urchek with a pair of RBIs, L. Krieg had three singles and four RBIs, Marker tripled, singled and drove in three runs, R. Krieg doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Clower tripled, singled and drove in two runs, McCartney added a pair of singles and Perline drove in two runs while Hyde lent a double. Marker was also credited with the win with two perfect innings, striking out three. For the Knights, Falkner doubled. Powell was given the loss in four innings, striking out four while walking five and surrendering 18 hits.
Girard 14, Chippewa 0 (5 inn.) — The Indians exploded for 14 runs with the exclamation point coming in the fourth with six runs to topple the Chipps. Leading the potent offense was Wilkes with a double, singled and three RBIs, Saxon doubled and drove in three, Broll legged out a triple, singled and drove in two runs, Doran doubled and singled and Plant tripled, singled and had a pair of RBIs. Plant also picked up the win in five innings, striking out seven while walking two and allowing two hits. For Chippewa, Ries was given the loss in 3 2/3 innings, allowing 11 hits, seven walks and striking out one.
Canfield 4, Howland 0 — The Cardinals blanked the Tigers thanks to a dominant outing in the circle. Hrina shut down the Howland offense, tossing a complete-game one-hitter while striking out six and allowing three walks. At the plate for Canfield, Triveri doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Lutz singled twice and Figueroa belted a solo home run. Tatar was given the loss in seven innings, striking out six, walking two and allowing seven hits.

Howland 3, Carrollton 0 — In the regional qualifying round of the OHSAA tournament, the Tigers blanked the Warriors in straight sets (25-8, 25-22, 25-20). Leading the way was Nick Caesar with nine kills and two blocks, Carter Jones lent seven kills and points, Alex Slater recorded nine assists and three blocks, Dylan Nguyen added seven assists, Freddie Rivera tallied eight digs, four aces and 15 points and Wesley Fee had five digs and three aces. Howland will take on top-seeded St. Vincent-St. Mary Thursday in Akron.
