BASEBALL
Howland 12, Edgewood 2 — After scoring nine runs in the opening frame, the Tigers cruised to the win over the Warriors. Picking up the win for Howland was Steven Bubon, throwing three innings, striking out two and walking two. At the plate, Luca Fronzaglio doubled and drove in two runs and Brayden Kovarik lent a pair of hits. For Edgewood, Elliott Tobie was given the loss early, allowing one hit and five walks while striking out none.
Mineral Ridge 9, McDonald 4 — Thanks to six runs in the fourth inning, the Rams toppled the Blue Devils and secured the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference title. Charging the Mineral Ridge offense was Klamer with a home run and another hit and Gillie drove in three runs while a smattering of Rams lent a hit. On the bump, Kline picked up the win in relief after throwing four innings while giving up a hit, walking seven and fanning five.
Girard 10, Struthers 4 — After taking the lead with four runs in the opening frame, the Indians kept the Wildcats at bay and earned the win. The 10-hit offense was sparked by Hynes with a triple and single, Royal singled twice, Phillips doubled twice, Ward drove in two runs and Barone had a pair of singles. Plant picked up the win in 3 2/3 innings, striking out two while walking four and scattering three hits. For Struthers, Pastella doubled. Wolfe was given the loss in four innings, allowing seven hits while striking out four and walking four.
Ursuline 6, Canfield 4 — Thanks to four runs in the top of the third and a strong defense, the Irish were able to cool the Cardinals and earn the win. Polkovitch picked up the win in 5 1/3 innings, striking out two, walking two and allowing 10 hits. Offensively, Triveri singled twice, Snyder doubled and singled, Kollar lent a pair of singles and Balog legged out a triple and drove in two runs. For Canfield, Anzevino was credited with the loss in 2 1/3 innings, striking out one while allowing two walks and six hits. At the plate for Canfield, Jadallah doubled and singled, Weibling doubled twice and singled, Watson and Zorella each singled twice and Mancini lent a double.
Alliance 5, Fitch 3 — Three runs in the top of the fifth proved to be the difference maker for the Aviators in the win over the Falcons. Platt stymied the Fitch offense and earned the win in six innings, striking out three while allowing two walks and three hits. Offensively, Elery had a pair of singles and RBIs while Jones drove in two runs. For Fitch, Zabosky was given the loss in an inning, allowing a pair of hits while walking one and striking out none. Offensively, Senediak drove in two runs.
Cardinal Mooney 13, West Branch 1 — Despite a commanding lead heading into the latter half of the game, the Cardinals exploded for seven runs in the final frame to throttle the Warriors. Nearly everyone on the Mooney roster tallied a hit but the offensive charge was led by Stacy with a pair of singles and three RBIs, Verraco doubled twice and drove in two runs, Reese doubled and Brenner belted a home run and drove in three. Stacy also picked up the win in five innings, striking out three while walking one and allowing two hits. For West Branch on the bump, Springer was given the loss, striking out three while allowing three walks and 10 hits.
Bristol 16, Badger 5 (5 inn.) — The Panthers crossed the plate eight times in the bottom of the second and six more in the fourth to throttle the Braves. The 13-hit Bristol offense was charged by Thorp with a double and four RBIs, Kohler with a pair of singles and three RBIs, Miller had three singles, Pierce doubled, singled and drove in two runs while Berry singled twice and Otey drove in two runs. L. Miller picked up the win in four innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing two hits. For Badger, Hunkus singled twice and Winchek doubled. Flowers was given the loss for Badger, tossing three innings in which he struck out two, walked one and allowed six hits.
LaBrae 2, Brookfield 0 — The Vikings only needed two to topple the Warriors as LaBrae claimed the close contest. Rowe went the distance and kept the Brookfield offense off of the scoreboard, striking out four while allowing two walks and six hits. Offensively for LaBrae, Glaser and Magoulick both doubled as Boone legged out a triple. For Brookfield, Warrender struck out three, walked one and allowed four hits in seven innings. Offensively, B. Reardon doubled and singled twice.
SOFTBALL
Mathews 11, Grand Valley 0 — In the battle of the Mustangs, Mathews throttled Grand Valley thanks to a shutout, one-hit performance on the mound. Olivia Matheny picked up the win, striking out 11. She also helped her cause at the plate with a pair of doubles, a single and five RBIs, Rilee Paddock doubled twice and drove in two runs, Ashia Pate tripled, singled and drove in two runs and Ava Shugart doubled.
Archbishop Hoban 5, Champion 4 — The Knights needed a late spark and got one with three runs in the bottom of the sixth innings to edge out the Golden Flashes. Offensively for Hoban, Akers and Shenigo each singled twice, Herstich doubled and singled and Regan homered and drove in three runs. Alivia Havanas was credited with the win, collecting four strikeouts and walking one. For Champion offensively, Gradishar homered, singled and doubled, Sylvester singled twice and Strock doubled. J. Strock was given the loss, fanning four while walking two.
Jefferson 4, LaBrae 3 — The Falcons fell behind by a run after the bottom of the fifth but answered back with three runs in the next half inning, taking the lead and holding it to earn the win over the Vikings. Offensively for Jefferson, Barress doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Matuz singled and doubled and Rogers tripled. Lewis picked up the win in seven innings, striking out five, walking one and allowing five hits. For LaBrae at the plate, Rowe belted a home run and drove in two runs while Bragg and Thompson each singled twice. DeArmitt was given the loss in seven innings, striking out nine, walking two and allowing eight hits.
Hubbard 2, Salem 1 — It was a pitcher’s duel claimed by the Eagles in the close win over the Quakers. The one-two punch of Schultz and Taylor proved too much for Salem to overcome with Schultz earning the win in four innings, striking out six while allowing no walks and two hits. At the plate, Songer doubled and Masluk drove in two runs. For Salem, Lewis was given the loss in six innings, striking out five while walking four and allowing four hits.
Struthers 11, Heartland Christian 1 — The Wildcats throttled the Lions thanks to a strong offensive showing. Leading the charge in the win was Susany with three hits and three RBIs and Davis had a pair of hits and RBIs. Morris picked up the win with three strikeouts. For Heartland Christian, Reynolds tallied three hits.
South Range 11, Girard 3 — In the latter half of the contest, the Raiders offense exploded for seven runs in the final three innings to claim the win over the Indians. The offensive surge was headed by DeJesus with three singles, Brogan homered, doubled and drove in two runs, Wilt drove in three runs, Aey doubled and drove in two runs and Pauline singled twice. In the circle, DeJesus picked up the win in four innings, striking out five while allowing a walk and four hits. For Girard, Collins doubled. Plant was given the loss in four innings, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out none.
Howland 11, Harding 0 (5 inn.) — The Tigers scored four runs to open the game and added six more to route the Raiders Tuesday. Tatar picked up the one-hit win in the circle, fanning eight while allowing one walk to shutout Harding. At the plate, Schmitz tripled and singled, Deeter doubled and drove in two runs, Schlatt doubled and had three RBIs and Luman tripled and singled. For Harding, Trisler was given the loss, striking out four while allowing seven walks and nine hits. Offensively, Phillips picked up the lone hit with a double.

Mathews 9, Pymatuning Valley 7 — The high scoring, close contest was claimed by the Mustangs thanks to a strong offense. Leading the charge was Newsome with four hits, Matheny doubled and singled, Hufford had a pair of hits and four RBIs, Shugart had a pair of hits and Allie Ramsey doubled twice. Matheny was credited as the winning pitcher. PV statistics were not submitted.
