Boardman, Fitch both post solid showings at Division I district track and field meet

AUSTINTOWN — After a rainy week, the track postseason finally began on Friday with the Division I meet at Austintown Fitch High School.

Boardman and Austintown Fitch had solid days with their respective girls and boys teams. The Spartan girls finished fourth with 59 points, and the boys came in fifth with 59.5. Meanwhile, the Fitch boys were fourth with 65.25 points as the girls ended the day in sixth with 53.

Additionally the Chaney girls (16) were 12th, Howland (9.5) came in 13th and Warren G. Harding (3) was 15th. On the boys side, Harding posted 23 points for ninth, Howland tied Kent Roosevelt with 12.25 points for 12th and Chaney tallied six points for 15th.

The top-four finishers in each event moved on to next week’s regional at Fitch.

GIRLS

Boardman and Fitch had good days in the throwing events

Boardman took the top-two spots in the shot put. Sarah Bero posted a 41-4 to win the district, and sophomore Liliana Ison was the runner-up with a 39-1. Bero also moved on in the discus after throwing 123-7 as the runner-up.

Staying in the discus, Fitch senior Meghan Vadas dominated the competition, recording a 132-4 to win the district event. She also advanced in the shot put with a 37-6, finishing in fourth.

Howland’s Kaelyn DeBlois finished third in the high jump with an attempt of 4-10.

In the running events, Fitch saw a couple runners advance in the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Kayla Clinkscale was the runner-up after running 16.42 seconds, and senior Ra’Mya Hunter came in fourth with a 16.73.

Fitch’s team of Addison Houser, Jazzlyn Cylar, Chloe Smith and Alyssa Rodgers punched their ticket to regionals with a 49.41 in the 4×100 relay.

Boardman’s Gina Dinapoli was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles with a 47.13, and Olivia Brady ran 5:09.85 for third in the 1,600. The Spartan relay team of Mia Duble, Abbi Mihok, Dinapoli and Brady also took third in the 4×400 relay with a 4:09.46.

Chaney sophomore Alyssa Brown came in third in the 100-meter dash with a 12.99. Chaney’s 4×200 relay team of Naturelle Reed, Deleyla Pagan Asencio, Elsha Perkins and Brown also finished third with a 1:47.53.

BOYS

Boardman and Fitch’s good performances continued on the boys side.

Boardman started the day with a win in the 4×800 as David D’Altorio, Adam Nigro, Tommy Sullivan III and Chase Moore ran 8:05.86. Dylan White added a fourth-place finish in the 1,600 after running 4:32.9.

Robrick Taylor ran 50.39 as the runner-up in the 400 for the Spartans, and D’Altroio registered a 9:32.22 for third in the 3,200.

Fitch sophomore Brayden Bryant recorded an 11.07 to win the 100-meter dash, and Justin Sahli picked up another victory with a 1:55.44 in the 800. In the 110-meter hurdles, Fitch’s Deonte Stallings ran 15.02, good enough for third.

The Falcons’ 4×100 relay squad of Treavion Davis, Robert Maderitz, Zack Reents and Bryant combined for a 43.10 to come in third. The Falcons added another third-place finish in the 4×400 relay as Maallikk Millere Jayden Berg, Sahli and Reents put up a 3:29.72.

Howland’s Gianmarco Malvasi clocked a 15.10 in the 110 hurdles to finish fourth as the Tiger advanced.

In the field events, James Mitchell finished third for the Spartans in the shot put with a 52-5.

Fitch’s John Vaughn threw 50-4.25 to come in fourth in the shot put.

Warren G. Harding’s Davion Herron came up just short of winning the high jump. He and Alliance’s Jarrin Blair both reached the 6-2 mark, but Blair won the event off tries.
