OHSAA releases pairings for upcoming baseball tournament

The end of the high school baseball season is right around the corner, and on Sunday, the Ohio High School Athletic Association released the tournament brackets.

In Division II, Boardman and Austintown Fitch will participate in the Northeast 1 bracket on May 27. Boardman will host Munroe Falls, and the Falcons travel to Broadview Heights. That day in the Northeast 2 pairings, Warren G. Harding will travel to Avon Lake for its district semifinal on May 27.

In Division III, Chaney will travel to Padua Franciscan on May 22. In Northeast 1, Howland will host Bedford that day, and in Northeast 2, East will hit the road to take on Cuyahoga Valley Christian.

Division IV, Northeast 3, will feature a couple local-local pairings. West Branch will go to Girard on May 22, and Ursuline hosts Niles. In Northeast 1, Struthers will go to West Geauga on May 22, and Hubbard will host Salem. Additionally, Canfield will host Akron Coventry in Northeast 2.

On to Division V, where there are a couple local-local matchups in Northeast 2. South Range will host Garrettsville Garfield on May 23, and at the same time, Cardinal Mooney will welcome Liberty to Cene Park. That day, Lakeview will host Crestwood on May 23.

In Northeast 3 on May 23, Crestview will host Berkshire, and in Northeast 4 that day, Champion will stay in town to face Fairview.

Poland received a bye and will face the Beachwood-Chippewa winner in the Northeast 1 district semifinal.

Shifting to Division VI, LaBrae will host Mogadore on May 23 as part of the Northeast 1 tournament.

Northeast 3 will see Columbiana traveling to Mineral Ridge, and Newton Falls will have Dalton come to town.

Moving to Northeast 2, Brookfield will host Campbell on May 23, Grand Valley will see Oberlin in Orwell and East Palestine will stay home to take on Rittman.

In Northeast 4, Jackson-Milton will travel to Columbia and Springfields will load the bus up to go to Rootstown.

Finally, Division VII will feature several teams.

Warren JFK got the top seed and will welcome Cardinal for a sectional final on May 23 as part of the Northeast 1 bracket. Mathews will drive to face Cornerstone Christian, Western Reserve and Heartland Christian will face off in Berlin Center and Leetonia will travel to face Kidron Central Christian.

In Northeast 2, Chalker will travel to face McDonald, Bristol will host Badger, Windham will host Wellsville and No. 2 seed Maplewood will stay home to face Fairport Harding.

Rounding out the pairings is Northeast 3. Lordstown will travel to the shores of Lake Erie to face top seed Ashtabula St. John. And Lowellville will host Mahoing Valley Athletic Conference foe Waterloo. The Rockets and Vikings split the season series.
