Chaney’s Brown named to third team as 3 make All-Ohio

There weren’t too many local girls basketball players to make the All-Ohio teams in Division I, II and III. But there were a few that received honors.

The teams were released on Tuesday afternoon, rounding out the awards for girls’ hoops. The teams for Divisions IV, V, VI and VII were announced on Monday.

Chaney sophomore Alyssa Brown received Division III third-team recognition, the top recipient among the three locals to make the list. The 5-foot, 7-inch Brown averaged 20.5 points per game for the Cowboys.

Another area sophomore also got honorable mention in Division III. Howland’s Maya Kubancsek earned honorable mention after a solid second season.

Austintown Fitch senior Rachel Spalding received honorable mention in Division II.

With the all-state girls’ teams in the completed, the boys will be released over the next couple days.

The first set of boys’ teams to be announced with be Divisions IV, V, VI and VII. They will be released at noon today. And the Division I, II and III will be made public on Thursday.
