YSU women drop fourth straight game

Youngstown State’s midseason struggles continued on Sunday, as the Penguins dropped their fourth straight game 77-62 at Wright State.

Despite taking a 20-12 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Raiders found their shooting touch in the second and third quarters to tie the game at halftime and then pull away in the second half.

Wright State shot 44.4% overall and was 7-for-14 from beyond the arc. The Raiders’ aggressiveness on the offensive end was rewarded at the free-throw line, where they were 22-for-27.

Meanwhile, YSU struggled to keep up with Wright State’s hot shooting. The Penguins were 32.8% from the floor overall and shot just 26.1% from deep.

After back-to-back games scoring just one point, Malia Magestro bounced back by leading the Penguins with 16 points.

Jewel Watkins added 13 points for YSU, while Haley Thierry scored a season-high 12 points.

The Penguins return home this week with back-to-back games in the friendly confines of the Beeghly Center. They host Northern Kentucky on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., before facing Robert Morris on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
