YSU women rally past Northern Kentucky 56-47

Youngstown State continued its winning start to Horizon League play on Saturday.

After trailing by seven heading into the fourth quarter, the Penguins outscored the Norse by 16 in the final period to rally to a 56-47 road victory over Northern Kentucky.

In that deciding fourth quarter, YSU scored the first 13 points of the period, finishing with 21 points, while shooting 50% from the floor. Defensively, the Penguins limited the Norse to 1-for-13 shooting.

YSU was led by a pair of double-doubles from its two post players. Faith Burch scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while freshman Sophia Gregory finished with 11 points to go with 12 rebounds off the bench. The Penguins also got 10 points from Jewel Watkins.

Malia Magestro also returned to the lineup for the Penguins after missing the previous four games with an injury. She came off the bench, scoring six points in her return.

With the win, YSU improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Penguins will have the upcoming week off for finals week before traveling down to Columbus to face No. 12 Ohio State on Dec. 14 at 11 a.m.
