High School Sports Roundup from Dec. 6

BOYS BASKETBALL

Boardman 76, Cardinal Mooney 44 — At Boardman High School, the Spartans used a strong first half to power past Cardinal Mooney, leading 54-20 at halftime before walking away with the victory. Boardman’s Terrel McDowell led all scorers with 17 points, and Kaden Mayhew scored 16 points. Dante Turner made four 3-pointers on his way to a 15-point night for the Cardianls, and Dom Letlow added 13 points.

Neshannock (Pa.) 58, Howland 39 — The Lancers tamed the Tigers with their first win of the season. Jace Ryno led Neshannock with 16 points. For Howland, Steven Bubon and Anthony Chieffo each tallied nine points to lead Howland.

Mathews 69, Maplewood 23 — The Mustangs toppled the Rockets to improve to 2-0 on the season. Earning the leading-scorer nod was Logan Linkesh with a game-high 17 points. Adding to the win was Jake Petak and Anthony Marinkovich with 10 points each, and Dom Toto with 15 points. For Maplewood, Tyson Webster led with seven points.

Niles 76, Champion 39 — The Red Dragons dominated the Golden Flashes en route to a 37-point win. For Niles, four players tallied points in double digits, but the scoring was led by True Carey-Hardin with 19 points. Cash Carey-Hardin was right behind with 18 points, Alex Doyle collected 12 points and Avon Fryer added 11 points. Champion was led by Braylen Braham with 11 points and Christian Williams with 10 points.

Perry 59, Fitch 49 — The Falcons dropped their second straight game with the loss to the Panthers. Perry’s Luke Wolf led all scoring with 18 points, while the trio of Darnell McCleod, Nico Martelli and Preston Daley each added 10 points. For Fitch, Carter Owens led with 11 points and Marcel Finkley and Braeden Sallee each collected 10 points.

Canton Central Catholic 73, Harding 61 — The Crusaders cruised to a 12-point win over the Raiders. Lance Vlacovsky led with 22 points while Luke Vlacovsky added 20 and Jonathan Stangl tallied 10 points to balance out the leading scorers for the Crusaders. For Harding, Chaz Coleman collected 21 points, and Davion Herron and Xavier Clark each had 14 points to round out Harding’s leading scorers.

Kennedy 79, Bristol 73 — The Eagles claimed the high-scoring affair over the Panthers to earn their first win of the season. A host of Eagles scored in the game, but Nick Ryan led Kennedy with 26 points. Leveling the leading scorers for the Eagles was Henry Phillips with 13 points and Preston Geraticano with 11 points. For Bristol, Jack Berry hauled in a game-high 29 points, while Croc Thorp and Kaiden Kohler each scored 16.

Girard 49, LaBrae 47 — The Indians earned their first win of the season by edging out the Vikings. For Girard, Dom Phillips claimed the leading scorer spot with 18 points, and LaBrae’s Derek Wilson tallied 18 points to lead LaBrae.

Alliance 60, Salem 51 — The Aviators remain unbeaten after claiming Friday night’s match over the Quakers. JR Jackson earned the top spot for Alliance with 17 points. Salem’s Deontay Steele led the Quakers with 13 points and Evan Jones rounded out the leading scorers with 11.

Campbell 62, Waterloo 50 — The Red Devils tallied their second win of the season with the 12-point win over the Vikings. Campbell was led by Josue Rodriguez who recorded a game-high 21 points. Rounding out the Campbell leading scorers was Jared Colon with 17 points and Teyon Harris with 13. For Waterloo, Simons led with 20 points and Hawley added 14 in the loss.

Brookfield 56, Valley Christian 49 — The Warriors claimed their second win of the season with the win over the Eagles. Blake Hammond collected a game-high 26 points to lead Brookfield, with Cody Davidson adding 11 and Judah DeJoy tallying 10 points. Valley Christian was led by Deion Miller with 18 points, and A. Coward and J. Robinson with 10 points each.

Columbiana 54, Academy for Urban Scholars 16 — The Clippers remain unbeaten after dominating the Hawks to claim the 38-point win. Columbiana was led by Seth Struharik with 18 points and Hunter Devanzo who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. For the Hawks, Kam Black led with 10 points.

Springfield 47, Jackson-Milton 44 — The Tigers earned the win over the Blue Jays, improving to 2-0 early in the season. Cash Richardson led Springfield with 21 points and Matt Wymer lent 10 points as well. For Jackson-Milton, Ryen Romigh hauled in 21 points to lead the Blue Jays.

Newton Falls 48, Western Reserve 24 — The Tigers mauled the Blue Devils to remain unbeaten after three games. Nearly all of Newton Falls’ players recorded a bucket, but Cameron Huff led with nine points. For Western Reserve, Josh Klasic led with nine points.

Liberty 64, Lisbon 58 — The Leopards came away with their first win of the season, topping the winless Blue Devils. Dearmani Franklin earned top-scorer status for Liberty with 14 points, while Evan Bates and Joe Croom added 13 and 12 points, respectively. For Lisbon, AJ Ramgeet hauled in a game-high 27 points to lead Lisbon and Aiden Ramgeet collected 10 points in the loss.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Springfield 60, Jackson-Milton 34 — The Tigers claimed their first win of the season with a 26-point thrashing of the Blue Jays. Mariana Tuscano led Springfield with 16 points, while Regan Rogenski added 15, Jameka Brungard collected 13 points and Kendall Maughan added 12 points to round out Springfield’s leading scorers. For Jackson-Milton, Amani Yasin led with 17 points.

Lowellville 51, Sebring 22 — The Rockets trounced the Trojans in Friday night’s contest. Lowellville was led by Michelle Canva with 11 points, while Sebring’s leading scorer was Kiera Kemmery.
