Local team reaches Junior League Softball World Series final
The Steel Valley All Stars, a team featuring 12-to-14-year old softball players from Poland, Boardman, Struthers and Canfield, has advanced to the Junior League Softball World Series championship game.
The team, which is based out of Poland and won the U.S. Central regional to qualify for the JLSWS, defeated the East regional champions from Indiana, Pennsylvania, 5-2 in the first of two semifinals Friday.
In total, the Poland squad is 5-1 in the tournament; after losing its opening game to the Europe-Africa regional champions from Prague, the team won its three remaining pool play games and beat the West regional winners 2-1 in the quarterfinals Thursday.
The Steel Valley All Stars attempt to avenge their loss to the Czech Republic in the JLSWS championship game today at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
