Scrappers’ 4-game win streak snapped with 12-4 defeat to Crosscutters

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ four-game win streak came to an end Saturday evening with an 12-2 home loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters.

After a four-game sweep of the West Virginia Black Bears, the Scrappers fell behind early and never led as Williamsport’s offense poured on Mahoning Valley starting pitcher Max Banks, who lasted three innings and surrendered seven hits and six earned runs, as well as various relievers.

After falling behind 2-0, the Scrappers tied the game in the bottom of the second inning after Beau Ankeney hit a leadoff solo home run and Garret Pike hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored John Schroeder, who had singled and reached second on a Crosscutters infield error.

Williamsport responded strongly in the third, however, with four runs to take back the lead and jump out ahead 6-2. The Crosscutters added a run each in the sixth and seventh innings before scoring another four runs in the ninth to pad their advantage.

Mahoning Valley put together another two-run half-inning in the bottom of the ninth after Max Johnson and Joel Dragoo each drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Scrappers finish their two-game home series with Williamsport today. The game is set for a 2:05 p.m. first pitch at Eastwood Field.

Starting at $3.23/week.
