Live blog: South Range, Canfield, Fitch vie for softball state championships

AKRON — Three Mahoning Valley teams are vying for softball state championships today at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
South Range faces Liberty Union in Division III at 12:45 p.m., Canfield takes on Bryan in Division II at 3:30 p.m. and Austintown Fitch will look to defend their title against Watkins Memorial at 6:15 p.m.

Division III state championship
SOUTH RANGE 3, LIBERTY UNION 5. Final.
End of the first inning: South Range gets Giada Pauline to third base, but can’t convert. Meanwhile, Liberty Union loads the bases, but Jayli Wilt throws back-to-back strikeouts to see off the threat.
End of the 2nd. Nothing doing for either team in that inning.
End of the 3rd. Jayli Wilt gets herself into another jam with a pair of walks, but gets out of it again with a strikeout.
End of the 4th. Both teams finally get on the board. Solena DeJesus gets a hit, which results in a run scoring on a throwing error. Then Payton Hochradel bats an RBI to level things off for the Lions.
End of the 5th. South Range adds a run with an RBI from Anna Aey, but Liberty Union’s Emilyn Kanet hits a base-clearing single after Jayli Wilt walked three straight batters.
End of the 6th. Both teams put a run on the board. But it’s rally time now for South Range. The Raiders need at least two runs in three outs.
Final. Liberty Union defeats South Range 5-3 to win the Division III state championship.

Division II state championship
CANFIELD 4, BRYAN 0. Final.
End of the 1st inning. Caylee Ortiz is having quite the state tournament. Her bases-clearing three-run double gives the Cardinals the early lead.
End of the 2nd inning. Fairly quiet inning for both teams. Malena Toth walks the lead-off hitter, but strikes out the next three. Canfield gets two runners on, but can’t bring them home.
End of the 3rd inning. A lead-off double from Leah Figueroa turns into another run for Canfield after an RBI from Marina Koenig.
End of the 4th inning. Nothing doing for both teams. Canfield gets two on, but Malena Toth lines out into a double play at second base to end the inning.
End of the 6th inning. The Cardinals are three outs away from their second state championship in program history.
Final. Canfield’s “revenge tour” is complete. The Cardinals are Division II state champions with a 4-0 victory over Bryan.
Division I state championship
AUSTINTOWN FITCH 4, WATKINS MEMORIAL 0. Final.
End of the 1st inning. Fitch with an early statement. Solo home run from Ayla Ray clears the center field fence.
End of the 2nd inning. Fitch brought the bats again today. Sydnie Watts obliterated a solo homer to left field, which was then later followed by a two-run single by Kaliana Ray.
End of the 3rd inning. Sydnie Watts gets out of another jam with a strikeout with two Warriors runners on base. Fitch goes down 1-2-3.
End of the 4th. Both teams go down in order 1-2-3. Both pitchers, Sydnie Watts for Fitch and Carsyn Cassady for Watkins, are dealing now.
End of the 5th inning. Flying along now. Both pitchers in control.
End of the 6th inning. Fitch is three outs from its second straight state championship.
Final. Fitch completes the double and wins its second straight Division I state championship with a 4-0 victory over Watkins Memorial.
