Good’s Raceway is a local hidden gem

Good’s Raceway is a hidden gem of a race track located in Deerfield, located just a quarter mile from east of Deerfield Circle. After laying dormant for two years, former racer Jim Good and wife Jen purchased the 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval and opened in 2000.

Racing is every Saturday from April to October. Their seven-division program includes Jr. Sprints, Mod Lights, Jr. Sportsman, 27o Micro Sprints, Sportsman Dwarfs, Mini Stocks, and Side X Sides.

Having heard a lot of good things about the track I decided to attend last week’s events. A new grandstand was put in since I was last there. Despite heavy rain all around the area, the racing Gods smiled down on the track with dry conditions. About 70 race cars towed in despite rain throughout the area. The track was smooth and dry to start with fear of rain kept from too much watering. At feature time Jim had the track graded and moisture applied to make a great racing surface. Jim is a one-man band all around the race track — prepping the track and making sure all is well for the racers and fans. The “good” folks at the raceway are doing a lot for young racers.

I tried the concession stand and had a great pulled pork sandwich. The announcer kept fans informed with coverage of the action and info on drivers. The sound system worked well and I could hear him anywhere.

Feature events had a lot of action. The 270 Micros and Sportsman Dwarfs caught my eye with close and furious action. All divisions raced well. The emphasis is on a family-oriented environment with safety and fairness for all.

Racing is at 7 p.m. every Saturday. Race fans and anyone looking to take out the family should take a drive to Deerfield and check out Good’s Raceway.

Starting at $3.23/week.
