YOUNGSTOWN — Daben Figueroa of Akron scored a split decision over Danny Bodish of Pittsburgh in a 130-pound clash to highlight Jack Loew’s ‘Outside the Box,’ 11-bout amateur fight card at Penguin City Brewery late Saturday night.

Figueroa earned the 3-2 split over last year’s Pennsylvania Golden Gloves champion in what was arguably the closest bout of the evening between two of the most experienced fighters on Loew’s card.

The win by Figueroa was one of four split decisions on the night.

In a 170-pound scrap, Youngstown’s Darrius Harshaw won over John Michaels of South Side Boxing Club when the referee stopped the fight due to Michaels’ broken nose.

Other split decision winners included Akron’s Jonah Hoffner, who defeated Vic Velazquez of SSBS in a 140-pound pairing, Luke Sorek of Erie who earned his win over Jayden Thompson of Cleveland in a 125-pound match-up, while Izayah Jones of Akron topped Lorenzo Locklear of Cleveland in a 100-pound meeting.

The two co-mains featured Cleveland’s Willie Hardy scoring a unanimous decision against Andre Averette of Salem Boxing at 170 pounds, while a 130-pound pairing had Chris Vass of SSBC make his first fight a memorable one as he outdistanced Isaiah Tolley of Erie — he was also making his first foray into the ring — also by unanimous decision.

Other unanimous winners included Paul Butler of Cleveland defeating James LaClair of SSBC in the first of two 65-pound pairings.

Cleveland native Austin Evans defeated Kingsley Wade of SSBC in the other 65-pound matchup.

In a 100-pound scrap, Richard Spriggs of Columbus was a winner over Omari Garner of SSBC with the final winner Lujciano Locklear of Cleveland, who scored a unanimous decision over Mike Colvin, also of Cleveland at 150 pounds.
