Mooney, JFK golf qualify for states
The Cardinal Mooney and John F. Kennedy boys golf teams have each qualified for the Division III state tournament.
The Eagles finished second at the Division III northeast district tournament on Thursday at Tannenhauf Golf Club, firing a 332, while the Cardinals took third shooting 347.
Dalton won the team district title with a 327, with individual medalist honors going to Dalton’s Jaden Schlabach.
Individually, Mooney was led by junior Rocco Turner, who shot a 79. Freshmen Alex Eckstein and Dante Turner shot 83 and 92, respectively. Also for the Cardinals, Tim Reardon shot 93, while Joe Zeno shot 115.
For JFK, four freshmen spearheaded the team’s efforts, led by Henry Phillips’ 81. Julian Bolino shot 83 and Andrew Fredenburg shot 84. Junior Bryce Vanhorn fired an 84, while Andrew LaPolla shot an 89.
The Division III state tournament will take place at North Star Golf Club in Sunbury from Oct. 14-15.
