Penguins hire new assistant

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State men’s basketball announced Thursday the hiring of new assistant coach Mantoris Robinson.

Robinson replaces Chinedu Nwachukwu, who took a position with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Robinson has served under YSU head coach Jerrod Calhoun before, as the two worked together when Calhoun served as the head coach at Division II Fairmont State prior to coming to Youngstown.

“We are thrilled to welcome Manotis and his family to Youngstown,” YSU head coach Jerrod Calhoun said in a press release. “He is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff, and his familiarity with our culture and system will enable him to hit the ground running.

“Manny was a major part of building our championship program at Fairmont State, and we know he can help us continue to build our championship program here. He has championship DNA, starting as a player at Winthrop and continuing through his coaching career. He’ll be a terrific mentor for our players.”
