Penguin City to host amateur card

Local trainer Jack Loew to stage 14-bout event at the brewing company on Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN — Fresh off the success of his Golden Gloves return to the Mahoning Valley show on June 4, local trainer Jack Loew will present a 14-bout amateur card this Saturday at Penguin City Brewing Company.

Four of Loew’s South Side Boxing Club hopefuls highlight the card with the main event being a 125-pound pairing between the Quaker State’s Danny Bodish and Akron’s Daben Figueroa, both of whom are currently nationally ranked in their weight class.

The co-main event will pit Antwone Peoples, a Loew protege who goes up against Sammy Beverlin of Columbus in a 195-pound match-up.

“We are excited about the card and the fact that Penguin City Brewing Company is opening up their doors to us for this show,” Loew said. “All 14 bouts are evenly paired and expect an exciting main event between two nationally ranked boxers in Danny Bodish and Daben Figueroa.

“Also, our South Side Boxing Club will participate in the co-main event when we send Antwone Peoples up against Samuel Figueroa of Columbus in a 195-pound scrap. Both fighters are just chomping at the bit and ready to get into the ring.”

Also representing SSBC are Devon Tate, who will take on Jag Snell of Canton at 147 pounds, Rocco Wrobel, who is set to entertain John DeFrangia of Columbus in an 85-pound pairing, and Jesus Arroyo, who will meet Anthony Caporal, also of Pennsylvania in a 100-pound fight.
