Wordsmith will take a walkout on Wordle
As you likely know by now if you’re any kind of PK’er in the slightest, I’m all about the convo. Something of a wordy wordsmith, I suppose one might say?
About “convo,” I’m hoping that you realize that this is PK shorthand for conversation, right?
Sheesh, I guess the digressing will have to begin early this week! Hope you have your coffee handy. Hmpf.
What I’m really trying to say is that I fancy myself as something of a words gal. And please don’t confuse “word” with the newly created word “Wordle.” Try saying that 10 times fast.
Anyhoo…
Sorry to say, I’m not a huge fan of the vehicle. Fine, I’m not that sorry that I hate it like poison. But only because it’s so danged hard!
More hmpf and an ahem.
As such, I thought it might be fun to examine the absolute pinnacle of words, so to speak, the word “noun.” Practically the king of convo, ya know?
Hey, don’t quit on me now, you knew I was punny Patty (and not a mathematician or scientist or even blogger) when you first began to read my column, so bear with me here, please and thank you.
P.S. Speaking of blogs, I actually may be starting my own blog soon. Stay tuned
Totally going for the second digression right about now, my peeps. Now where were we? Oh right, talking about written convo, no? Yep.
I actually pulled a PK and looked up the word “noun.” Not because I am grammar deficient necessarily (though I suppose there’s an argument for it), it’s just that I wanted to be factual about my fact checks.
See what I did there? Ahem.
My old go-to, Wikipedia, tells me a little sumin’ sumin’ like this, yo:
“A noun is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep.
“It is a state of mind in which someone is or seems to be unaware of their surroundings.
“A word, other than a pronoun used to identify any class of people, places or things, or to name a particular one of these, proper noun.
“Generally, functions as the name of a specific objects such as living creatures places, actions, qualities, states of existence or ideas.”
There. Now at least someone credible and knowledgeable has officially (sort of) backed me up. Or perhaps it’s just another of those posers at “Wiki Writes?”
Then again, maybe it’s one of the other thousands of names Wikipedia goes by these days?
Sigh. Do I even need to say it? In the act of digressing, friends…
Nouns are to the English language what working is to thousands of young people out there who say they want a job and then refuse to get one. In other words, the concept, like the kiddos, are just not working.
All I know is, I long for a simpler day when words were words, y’all. OK, fine, that last one isn’t an official word. Sheesh, you guys are tough today!
But I’m still a fan of any fan of “My Sentiments Exactly.” That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
Happy Sunday, everyone!
