Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night
‘Twas the day they call Christmas
When all through the land
Folks were happy and cheerful
Whether in snow drifts or sand.
Every one of God’s creatures
Both humongously tall
Or adorably tiny
Yes indeed, one and all!
The stockings once hung
By the chimney with care
Revealed that St. Nicholas
Was recently there.
And while he was visiting
He made it his mission
To score cookies and milk
Which began in the kitchen;
But somehow wound up
On a plate near the hearth
With some sprinkles and icing
Even holiday hearts!
And while St. Nick proceeded
To houses near and far
He couldn’t help notice
A bright shining star.
It was brilliant and glorious
And great to behold
Since it recalled chapter one
Of the greatest story ever told.
For those who may think
This is Santa’s big day
Remember it’s start
In a manager filled with hay.
Today is Christ’s birthday
The most blessed of times
For He came down to earth
To save all of mankind.
Even though just an infant
He already knew
Of the perils and dangers
He was bound to go through.
But He did it anyway
Both for you and for me
And for all of the humans
In all history.
That night this little baby
Amongst ox and sheep
Took the very first step
In a promise He’d keep
To erase man’s transgressions
And oh. so much more
For what sin had sealed tightly
He’d opened the door.
And some three decades later
Having spread the good news
Would be silent and regal
As he took much abuse.
Now that heaven’s wide open
And He set us all free
We remember and celebrate
Right down on our knees.
For the Christ child who was born
Of sweet Mary that night
Would end up on a cross
Where He surrendered His life.
So that we mortal beings
Could have the great chance
To be singing and smiling
And maybe even dance?
Up in heaven so splendid
And so sublimely supreme
Yes for all who love Christ
Space in heaven there’ll be.
For our Savior was born
In a manger that night
So that everyone else
Would enjoy the great light
That was Jesus, most holy
Since that day he was born
Which we’re joyful to mark
As the first Christmas morn’.
While you’re opening presents
And being well fed
Don’t forget to pay homage
To the Triune God head.
Many blessings and comforts
And joy beyond fancy
Is what I wish you this Christmas
As those reindeer get prancy!
Merry Christmas to everyone
Reading this verse.
Don’t forget to love neighbors
And remember their worth.
Putting others before
Hogging your own selfish glory
Is the heart of the message
In this famous story.
So, remember to give
From your heart, your whole self
Whether taller than evergreens
Or tiny as an elf!
Merry Christmas; God bless you
And I wish with all my might
That you’re safe, warm and grateful
As you celebrate tonight.
