It was just announced that the White House is holding Medicaid benefits from both California and Minnesota. This impacts millions. How can anyone with a conscience do something so underhanded and nasty? The results may prove disastrous. Another White House poor decision.

Upon hearing of the death of Robert Mueller, Trump said, "I'm glad." In the July 16 Vindicator, Ian Haworth wrote (regarding the death of Lindsey Graham): "Any society that celebrates the death of its fellow citizens based upon political disagreement is doomed, not just because it negates the fundamental respect of the individual ... but because the political celebration of death will guarantee the continuation of political violence." Are those who celebrate the passing of Graham playing "Follow the Leader?"

What a joke! Bernie Moreno and Donald Trump want to sanction Canada over the wildfire smoke. What next, build a wall to stop the smoke and make Canada pay for it? And this is coming from an administration that has been quietly rolling back clean air and water standards for the benefit of their rich business friends. So I doubt that they're really concerned about American's health.

-- Hubbard

Why do people like the writer from Campbell always say that any suggestion to make voting safer will hurt the poor, minorities and women? This is another Democratic talking point. Not one woman I know had any trouble after getting married to register to vote. Why do these people look down on the poor and minorities like they're unable to do things others do? These groups should shun the Democrats because all they want to do is control them. Anyone who wants to vote can vote. Anyone who wants an ID can get one no matter what the Democrats say!

I find it interesting that the Schwebel's Baking Company workers approached and asked Sherrod Brown to hold a roundtable discussion to listen to their concerns regarding the impending shutdown. Why not ask one of our two Republican senators to meet? Or, did they, and were turned down? Would be curious to know how many of them were part of the "Red Wave" in 2024.

-- Austintown

One of the biggest challenges for Americans is determining if a leader is lying. With Trump it's easy. Ask yourself, did Mexico pay for the wall? Where's the health care plan to replace Obamacare? Did Lordstown have to close? Who paid for his tariffs? Has Iran's military been obliterated? Is the Strait of Hormuz open? Are your health care costs lower? Was the Ukraine War ended on Day 1? Is inflation lower? Were people in Springfield eating cats and dogs? He's told thousands of these lies.

-- Campbell

Has every Trump Cabinet member and GOP congressperson already been brainwashed or is Trump building Room 101 in the basement of his ballroom? Hard to say given the Blanche congressional hearing.

-- Canfield

I hope Donald Trump delivers a surprise prime time speech every month. His most recent rant was a nothing burger with chaos sauce and parasitic lettuce that revealed what a rotted tossed salad of paranoia, racism, misogyny, ignorant economic policy, empathy and fact-free chest thumping his administration embraces. Remember it as you consider your vote. Remember, too, that every GOP member of Congress enables him and hopes to pour enough oil and vinegar to cover their complicity in the corruption.

Vivek Ramaswamy has given us reasons not to vote for Amy Acton but has not given us any reason to vote for him.

It was calculated that only 85-90% of the immigrants being chased are criminals. Take the guns away from ICE. They shouldn't need them. They're tough so they should be able to handle the arrests easily as they are chasing women and children.

Who comes to build a better life for themselves and their family builds a stronger country for me. What, then, are Trump and his murderous masked goons?

-- Canfield

Watching the congressional hearing to rubber stamp the appointment of a permanent Attorney General, I noted that Todd Blanche appears to have the same scowl and grimace coach as Pete Hegseth and Trump. It befits a partner in Trump & Blanche Law.

Regarding your Orchid to the Poland Township Police Department, that other police forces should "take a clue" from them. Accolades to Poland, but Boardman received awards from the governor's office and the Ohio Crime Prevention Association back in the 1990s for its many community policing programs and problem-solving strategies. Many of our local agencies and individual officers have received awards the past three decades. Therefore, it would be safe to say that Poland wisely "took a clue" from them.

Well, it has been a long time coming and the Western Reserve Road widening project appears to be nearly completed. What a relief after all the detours and traffic issues. But has anyone noticed the railroad crossing near Southern Boulevard? What the heck? Did someone not realize that the crossing gate needed to be moved? The gate is right in the middle of the new lane and traffic is being directed around it. This project has been going on for years, and this was not addressed? Unbelievable!

-- Poland

Wake up, America! Are you aware that the REPUBLICANS in the U.S. Congress voted themselves eligible to share in the $1.776 billion Trump is seeking to get from his lawsuit against the federal government? This includes Michael Rulli, who continues to avoid holding a public forum for the people of the Mahoning Valley. I guess he\'d rather be rafting down the Mahoning River with Mike DeWine. Keep going, Mikie.

-- Austintown

After thousands of Ukrainian lives have been lost in the Russian attacks on them, finally our president agreed to give them Patriot missiles from the U.S. Too little, too late for the dead.

-- Austintown

Jon Husted was the Ohio Secretary of State. If someone voted improperly in Ohio, he would have brought charges. Because he didn't, our elections are safe, right? Then why is he supporting Trump's SAVE America Act? It will make it harder to vote and or take the vote away from poor people, minorities and women. It's because like most GOP congressmen they see their job as giving DJT whatever he wants, right or wrong. If that's the case then why should we keep him in D.C.?

-- Campbell

PLEASE DO NOT believe Trump when he says Democrats are communists. That is another deflection because he is in trouble and sinking quickly. He has us in a war that we shouldn't be in. And here in Ohio, If you want more of the same-old, same-old, vote for Husted and Ramaswamy. PLEASE, If you WANT CHANGE FOR A BETTER LIFE, PLEASE vote for BROWN AND ACTON.

Last weekend a letter writer stated the majority of our Founding Fathers were Christians and set up our country on basic Judeo-Christian values and we should rededicate our country to those divine principles. But as Thomas Paine wrote, "It is, however, necessary to except the declaration which says that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children. It is contrary to every principle of moral justice," and "good moral precepts can be produced without having recourse to supernatural intervention."

-- Poland

The idea that Democrats are only concerned with trans-gays rights is ridiculous. Democrats, and everyone else, should be concerned with EVERYONE'S RIGHTS. Democrats are also concerned with improving the quality of life in the U.S. You know, like lowering the cost of living, which Republicans seem to ignore. Maybe the space The Vindy provides for this far-right propaganda could be used to advertise tree removal companies that the Republicans won't help with?

-- Youngstown

Just want to send a huge thank you to the electric guys for all they did to get our power back on. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. What a mess!!! Thank you, thank you.

-- Boardman

It was striking to watch Trump's NATO conversations with Zelenskyy. The guy who didn't "have the cards" a year ago is all that stands between the Russian Bear and Poland. Meanwhile, loser Trump wasn't playing with a full deck, and throwing a snit over Greenland. The capable president didn't even need a suit to look the part.

-- Canfield

You're 7/6/26 hollow and hypocritical editorial extols the Declaration of Independence, but omits the obvious. It was written to denounce and defy the King, who expressly committed repeated injuries and usurpations, established an absolute Tyrany, refused laws, forbid laws of importance, obstructed Justice, obstructed natural immigration, erected offices to harass our people, cut off trade with the world, imposed taxes (tariffs) without consent, deprived trial by jury, excited domestic insurrections. Today's regime is what they tried to prevent.

-- Boardman

With an uneducated person now heading ICE, we are seeing multiple young men shot and killed on streets in multiple states. In one Virginia video, FOUR agents were repeatedly beating a man on the ground, instead of restraint and arrest, ongoing BEATINGS! In these cases, ICE lies about the individuals' actions to justify their lethal force and hold evidence from local authorities. WHY are ICE agents still MASKED AND WITHOUT BODY CAMERAS? Masks OFF, cameras ON to counter their LIES!

-- Canfield

Cut the $17 billion ICE budget and membership in half. Give them body cams and psych evaluations and send the yahoos to our borders to assist customs officials. Or, entirely defund Trump's obvious personal army before they can foul our polls with murder and brute stupidity. If armed help is needed, governors can call out their national guards. Trump and his GOP lackeys have no role in state election procedures per the Constitution. If a phony Trump emergency is declared, it's likely a serious lie. VOTE!

-- Canfield

God bless America. I love my country and I fought for the red white and blue. But thank God 250 is over! Yes, inconsiderate, careless folks that think every day is fireworks and noise. No consideration for pets and the elderly. So it's over, and America lives on.

I apologize for not realizing that a President shows how much he cares for the average citizen by how much their retirement account earns. It's not if people can't afford housing, food, medication or gasoline. It's not that the president has enriched himself by over $2 billion while in office. It's not that the president pardoned 1,500 thugs who attacked our Capitol. I'm sure the millions of people who have NO retirement accounts are very happy that you earned $63,000 in yours. Congrats to you!

-- Youngstown

Last year DJT made $2.2 billion off of being the president. About $1.4 billion came from crypto currency and his Mean (meme) coin. He made millions while the value of the coin dropped by roughly 90%. This means that many of his MAGA supporters lost money and it's suspected that it was a way for unknown supporters to give him money for favors. He also made money off of the stock market as he announced tariffs but then canceled them.

-- Campbell

Did the FIFA trophy presented to flatter Trump include a "one free call" card for interference in critical matches? Just asking cause I would hate to see victory for our best ever team marred by an asterisk denoting the game was rigged. You'd think barring one of the sport's best refs on an ICE/red hat-friendly immigration farce would have been enough.

-- Canfield

Troy Nehls, R-Texas, proposed covering the Statue of Liberty with a sheet after SCOTUS upheld the 14th Amendment. Maybe he will propose regular Ellis Island cross burnings if he can beat 47's kids to exclusive open-burn permits on the island.

-- Canfield

Thank you to all of the countries that participated in our 250 celebrations, done so with good will and happiness for America; some countries alienated by Trump. The ships entering New York Harbor with planes flying overhead flying American red, white and blue streaming was a stunning sight to behold. Thanks America, we can stand together. with better years ahead.

Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize so badly that he is willing to give it to himself. However, "he has ended the same Iran War (that he started) about 35 times." Something no other president has ever done. Would this make him overqualified?

-- Campbell

Has anyone given thought to driving eight SUVs (thousands of pounds) into the Reflecting Pool and not causing damage to its "old" concrete/cement base, possibly causing cracks? Trump and his entourage caused the damage. He loves to blame anything or anybody but himself.

To those of you who set off fireworks the July 4 holiday weekend, realize the impact it had on the environment, your neighbors, pets, wildlife, persons with PTSD and emotional issues, small children, the elderly and your own health and safety. The noise is deafening, excessive and terrifying. The chemicals released from the explosives are toxic. These remain in the air and on the ground, exposing you, along with your children, birds, pets and wildlife long after the fireworks have been set off. They're also a fire hazard.

-- Poland

Bernie Moreno's comments this week that Democrats are racist and anti-American are nothing but Trump lies. Moreno and his Republican Party are supporting this president who has pushed every legal and constitutional limit. Why does every Trump decision end up in the Supreme Court? No Republican can truthfully criticize a Democrat after supporting a narcissistic, anti-immigrant, convicted felon. Time for Moreno to represent Ohioans and stop being another Trump mouthpiece.

-- Canfield

There are 1,300-1,500 babies born to illegals in Springfield, Ohio. Now eligible for Trump Accounts. End birthright citizenship or we will have many more babies there. Ohio taxpayers deserve the same benefits as the illegals. DeWine is lying when he says that they are helping the Ohio economy. They are taking more than giving.

Congratulations to "Boardman" for chastising "Canfield" for his disgraceful rhetoric concerning our president. I am one of many who find "Canfield" disgusting and I wonder why he deserves so much weekly space in The Vindicator. Only in America!

-- Struthers

The thing that bothers me the most about the radical left is how they refuse to believe Trump is our one true God. He knows more than all of the experts combined. He ran many businesses and he is very, very rich. And why do we need allies if He can stop all wars in 1 day? We don't need to worry about the Supreme Court because he will pick them. No need to balance budgets or observe the constitutional balance of powers for elections. In Don We Trust! Habeas corpus? Habeas schmabeas!

-- Girard

A writer from Youngstown said they were amused at the President's supporters who feel he cares for them. During President Trump's first term my retirement fund made $48000. Under Joe Biden I lost $20000. In the last 18 months under President Trump my account earned $15000. This is because of the President's policies. I don't know about you but I think that's caring for us.

-- Hubbard

I respond to the Canfield writer declaring Democrats whining. I, and most Democrats, try to keep open minds. We listen and can agree to disagree. We are not all made from the same mold. We back the blue and don't attack the Capitol Police force. Most of us have never voted against a police levy. I don't support fraud such as the reflecting pool no-bid contracts. We don't believe in election fraud. We don't believe in different rules for Americans. We don't believe in the inequality in income taxes and most support public schools.

-- Austintown

A reply to the ridiculously humorous Sound Off last week. Democrats love their country, the American flag, the police and are proud to be American. They don't like a President who is so narcissistic that everything is about him, not the country. They don't like rioters who attack our Capitol. They don't like a President who is too insecure to accept that he LOST the election, and who always lies. And they don't like people who are afraid of anyone that doesn't look or act like them.

-- Youngstown

Trump keeps undermining elections to scare citizens from voting. Get out and vote. it is your right as a US citizen. Your vote is super important to the future of your city and your nation.

-- Liberty

Let's talk about what's obvious and what's obviously BS: To be a Democratic Socialist is not the same as being a Communist. That's what MAGA liars want you to believe; the same boogeyman propaganda disgraced demagogue Joe McCarthy spouted in the 1950s. Just like another Gary Varvel MAGA political cartoon in The Vindicator showing a donkey's mirror-image being Karl Marx. Democratic means people have a vote. MAGA means people have a king -- no vote -- just dictatorship, like Communism.

-- Boardman

What happened to this Supreme Court? Apparently, SCOTUS conservatives are now anti-black/brown and anti-immigrant. Sad because America's a country of immigrants! Yet 6/25/26 majority ruling stripped Haitians of their TPS due to lawless status in Haiti that exists today. Sending to Haiti would be a death sentence. VP Vance contrived the conspiracy about eating pets in Springfield, Ohio AND 47 repeated the LIES. Here Haitians are honest, productive, tax-payers WELCOME HERE! RBG would be APPALLED as AM I.

I would wish that meteorologists would report only the facts about the weather. Not adding adjectives such as "gloomy" or "comfortable." Perhaps this is their personal opinion in the newsroom. However, I LOVE a rainy day, and 80-plus is in no way comfortable to me or my husband with our breathing and functioning. "Just the facts, Maam, only the facts."

-- Austintown

6/25/2026: Today we have witnessed the most white supremacist corrupt Supreme Court rulings since the 1857 Dred Scott decision in which it was declared that black people are not citizens (humans). America is not made up of animals who hate others indiscriminately. But it seems the high court's majority is! God help us all, OMG!

47 insisted the Pool renovation be colored blue and completed by 7/4. A previously contracted company refused. The no-bid contract was awarded to 47 donor's company. The contract was signed by an unidentified person from US Dept. Interior, National Park Service. Public record indicated WARRANTY was NOT included. [Note: 47's motorcade DROVE through the pool, COST $14.7 million.] Within days, the algae reappeared and the blue material pieces floated to the top. Immediately, 47 reported that vandals were responsible for the failure! BLAME projected!
