President Trump is not helping on environmental issues
DEAR EDITOR:
The Environmental Protection Agency just announced that Ohio is no longer on the list of states that do not meet clean air standards. U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce writes, “As someone who has worked hard to promote policies that protect our environment and boost our economy, this announcement proves that both goals can be achieved.”
U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno states, “For Ohio to hit this milestone, Cleveland hit this milestone, is really, really important, because quite frankly, taking care of the environment and being good stewards is not really a partisan issue.”
Yet our president defunds major wind farm projects, promotes more oil drilling in the U.S., removes incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles, promotes more U.S. coal mining and coal-fired power plants, opens pristine wilderness and offshore leases to drilling, rolls back EPA clean-air standards, and takes the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement (labeling the agreement a “con job”). Just to name a few.
Who’s on first? What’s the goal here? While our representatives and senators promote their pro-environmental activities, these activities fly in the face of our president’s national directives.
I pity our children and grandchildren and the environment that they will inherit.
