DEAR EDITOR:
This is the third year of trying to rid Mill Creek MetroParks park of deer, and to the list is added small animals such as river otters, raccoons and opossums.
The park is really messing up the ecosystem. The deer haven't done any damage; they use weed killer and blame the deer. We have proof.
The sad thing is the golfers are not bothered by the deer. Most enjoy seeing them.
It's amazing how the USDA was just walked on by this autocratic director ... 14.9 deer per square mile is below a good number; this is why we all know they want to exterminate all of the deer.
My mother always told me, "Actions speak louder than words."
Since the park is funded by taxpayers, the director and board are accountable to the public. They must hold public meetings, answer questions and respond to inquiries and complaints each month. They are not transparent by any means; everything is a secret and usually underhanded, plus the many positions of people who carry them to help them do wrong is pathetic. They must keep complete and accurate records of meeting proceedings. They have never answered a question or complaint in three years of this, to my knowledge.
With that, Director Aaron Young should stop taking the minutes of these meetings. A single director should not be keeping the official board minutes, as it creates a conflict of interest and a lack of transparency. Official minutes should be recorded by a neutral party unaffiliated with the park or park board.
Last night, I decided to see how fair Mr. Young is. There is a big conflict; he just omits me. I attend most of these meetings and have only missed a few. I do sign in, and I always speak. It has always been important, but he doesn't respect the taxpayers' thoughts.
I looked in 2024 and 2025, and found only maybe two places where he recorded that I spoke. However, to show how he takes notes, I had been speaking of Mill Creek Park as a child would see its beauty. I was expressing that due to Mr. Young's craving for slaughtering our baby deer and their mothers, it makes the holidays so upsetting, so unsafe with hunters everywhere. It takes away the joy.
Well, his input was, "Kathy talked about the holidays," missing my entire point.
