Right to freedom of speech being trampled

DEAR EDITOR:

The first amendment enshrines freedom of speech. The right to voice opinions and simply to tell the truth is essential to our freedom. But the Trump regime distains this fundamental right. The list of its attacks on free speech gets longer by the day:

The Associated Press was barred from the White House because the AP Stylebook says reporters should refer to the Gulf of Mexico by its original name, not the “Gulf of America” like Trump wants.

Brendan Carr, Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Communications Commission, has started punishing broadcasters for speech Trump doesn’t like or even for having internal business practices that don’t align with the administration. He’s opened investigations into ABC, CBS, and NBC.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has given the Naval Academy a list of over 400 books to remove from its library.

Trump has told the Department of Justice to investigate two officials from his first term who later became critics.

JD Vance has been ordered to remove “improper ideology” from the Smithsonian.

We don’t have to accept this trampling on our right to freedom of speech. Demand your members of Congress speak out against this madness. And support media outlets that defy it.
