DEAR EDITOR:
When Aaron Young was asked to comment on the court ruling, he stated in an email: "We are pleased with Judge Campbell's ruling and remain steadfast in our commitment to the mission of the MetroParks, for the community we serve."
They remain steadfast in their commitment to the mission of the park for the community they serve." The community is of the deer people, the 2,500 people on the petition, and the taxpayers? Swear these people in and hear their truths, then tell me Mr. Young is a wonderful majestic fine gentleman. ... YOU SERVE THESE PEOPLE.
Chris Flak stated that the ruling made no mention of the "over 2,500 Mahoning County taxpayers who found serious problems with the way the board currently operates."
She said it appears Judge Campbell disregarded the "many lawsuits against Mill Creek Park due to director Aaron Young's inability to maintain satisfactory public relations."
This is wrong. I would like our attorney to please correct the fact that Mrs. Flak was ignored and not allowed to be sworn in. She was there for a reason and it was not for Judge Campbell to tramp on her reason.
During the August 2024 hearing, Miss Flak said the deer group formed as a result of MetroParks officials announcing in early 2023 that they were going to ask the board to approve a deer-removal program for that fall. "Large numbers of deer supporters flooded MetroParks meetings to argue against the deer-reduction plans, but the board approved it."
These were community members, who were shut down and blatantly ignored. I remember that, I was sitting in my seat quietly. No one gave us a chance, half the room was a little noisy as to be expected but the other half, we just were sitting there saying and doing nothing. This committee grabbed at a sneeze to quickly make their vote in extremely ignorant and unprofessional move.
Miss Flak was there for a reason, we all waited for this hearing and she best have another hearing so she can do what she came for and not be silenced and thrown out of the court room and "not even sworn in."
Attorney Marc Dann and Judge Campbell, get yourselves back in the courtroom and please do this right. No one is "Your Honor" until you are Honorable. Now, please reschedule. I know that Mr. Young has a commitment to the mission of the MetroParks, "FOR THE COMMUNITY HE AND HIS COMMITTEE SERVE."
SO THEN DO IT!
