Dictator for just a day? That’s not very likely
DEAR EDITOR:
As a veteran I must speak out against oligarchy, totalitarianism, tyranny, megalomania, insanity, and yes the cowards in my former political party.
I plead to Congress and USSC Justices to stop the insanity of implementing Canadian tariffs. There may be a justification for placing a significant tariff on Mexico considering the immigration problem and for other reasons with China. But what is the justification for placing any tariff let alone a 25% tariff on Canada, our national ally for generations of United States citizens? Have we become so immoral that we want to conquer an ally?
In 2016 I voted Republican. In 2024 I did not want our country to fall into a dictatorship because I have worked in several countries such as China and personally experienced what life is like for common people under a dictator.
As an octogenarian pondering our President’s tariff Executive Order I am reminded of Germany circa 1936-38; God help us!
Think fellow citizens: has any individual in history voluntarily been a “dictator for one day”?
