This summer, I flew from Pittsburgh Airport to Destin-Fort Walton Airport on Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle.

The number of people traveling by air is way into the thousands and the number of jobs that support an airport is in the many thousands as well.

Youngstown has an air base, but not a real airport that would generate jobs in every kind of occupation from clean-up to engineers. We need a viable airport here in the Youngstown area.

The Chase Bank explosion on May 28 is the reason the fire station should not be moved out of downtown. Had not that firefighter got to scene quickly and was able to lower himself into that basement with the help of a deputy with a body cam, we’d have two dead people on our hands possibly, since water line broke and electricity was still on.

The quickness with which he arrived with a ladder saved a life. We cannot ever have the fire station removed from downtown.

A recent letter to the editor called those submitting letters for “Sound off” cowards because their names aren’t printed.

That’s the rule for Sound off items. Only the city is printed.

The Youngstown City School District’s head nurse probably has good intentions. Rather than leave school for the day and quit learning, give the scholar a Tums for their “belly ache” and return them to class to keep filling their mind with knowledge. By her own admission, they can’t control the sharing of pills now. Will her plan change that or create more reliance on the schools for everyday needs? It does make for fine reading in the paper, though.

Now we have a candidate that no one voted for, has no knowledge of foreign affairs, the military, the economy or diplomacy. Her only experience is prosecuting criminals. Is the fact that she is female a reason to vote for her?

Leading up to Nov. 5, the Republicans will need: the patience of Job, the strength of Samson, the faith of Daniel, a barren Ruth (as an anti-abortion champion) and the wisdom of Solomon (to oversee a fair election). They’d also need to repel the false accusations of a witch-hunting DOJ, to counter a deceitful Herod-like media, a Simon Peter in the White House, who would deny (at least three times) that he was responsible for the border crisis and a Pilate, who would wash his hands of the whole mess created by the Biden administration before Maradona’s “Hand of God” tie-breaking vote that would give Trump a narrow victory.

About two weeks ago, my car broke down on Western Reserve Road. At least 10 people stopped to see if I needed help. It really brought my faith back in people, it was truly overwhelming. So, if you think no one cares about anyone anymore, this just goes to show, people still do care.

The terrible story out of Columbus of the pregnant woman shot by police is heartbreaking. A young wife and mother gone and a career probably ended. Our only hope is that possibly truth and justice will prevail. What could have been done differently to not have had this outcome? That is what we must try to do in the future. May the investigation be thorough and fair to all and the story shared as a learning experience.

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump won the Republican primary and speaks to the press regularly and answers questions. Whereas Kamala Harris didn’t receive a single vote. Instead she was substituted for the candidate that won all the Democrat primaries. To make matters worse she hasn’t had a single press conference since becoming the party’s presumptive nominee. According to statements from her campaign, she has supposedly reversed every policy position. Why isn’t she making the case for these new policies and explaining why and how she has changed. Likely because nothing has truly changed. It’s all an act to try and seem more moderate. Please don’t be fooled. She and her VP pick will govern with the same extreme positions they both have always had.

I just read Victor Davis Hanson’s article on Vice President Harris and her running mate. I can’t believe the arrogance of this man. He called Walz a buffoon, belittled Kamala”s ability to speak, and had the nerve to call Walz a blowhard ( I think he was projecting),saying Walz was going to brand Trump a criminal. Trump is a criminal. Where have you been Victor Davis Hanson.

John Stossel’ recent editorial suggested that because other societies had slavery as bad or worse than America that educating our population about it would be detrimental to our society. I believe that you can’t solve a problem of unequal results if you aren’t truthful about the effects of 246 years of slavery and a hundred years of Jim Crow. There’s a reason why Blacks have lower generational wealth, don’t live as long, have higher infant mortality, receive worse pre-natal care, are expelled from school more often, etc. Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away.

Sunday we attended the SPAMALOT production at the Playhouse. It was a wonderful production by so many members and production team. It would be unfair to single out anyone in particular. Thanks for your hard work. “Always look on the bright side of Life.”

How Interesting. While reading my instructions for Jury Duty, it reads, if you’re a “felon” you cannot serve as a juror, but if you’re a “Convicted Felon w/34 Counts”, you can run for President of the U.S. Hmmm … just sayin’!!!

Gov. DeWine’s recent disinformation regarding Citizens Not Politicians Amendment for redistricting reform is very disturbing. After voting several times for unconstitutional maps he now says Ohio needs “The Iowa Plan,” which gives the governor and his legislative friends the final say on maps. We are tired of politicians gerrymandering these maps. We need the Constitutional Amendment to pass this November and not have the governor and his legislature scheming to overturn it. Let your representatives know what is right.

I have been following the Kimonie Bryant murder case even though I live in Austintown. Finally after all this time, the murderer of 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney received his justice. And I discovered his attorney was hosted at a party by Struthers Mayor Kathy Cercone Miller. Voters of Struthers, do NOT forget this breach of good last at election time.

It didn’t take long for the Democratic Party and mainstream media to start rebranding Kamala Harris. We are supposed to believe that the most liberal former Senator is now a moderate. We are supposed to believe that the current vice president wasn’t put in charge of the border crisis, but only in finding root causes of immigration. We are supposed to believe that the person who encouraged supporters to bail out BLM looters and rioters is going to stand by the police. Finally, we are supposed to trust a person who repeatedly assured us Joe Biden was competent and fully engaged as president. I don’t.
