The right morals must come from God
DEAR EDITOR:
The debate continues about the Ten Commandments. A person does not have to be religious to have any kind of morals, but a person must know God’s standards to have the right morals.
In his farewell address, George Washington gave a presentation that was so true and accepted by most leaders in America that Congress read it annually for almost 100 years. One section states, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens … Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
The state constitution of Ohio influenced by the Founding Fathers states that first is religion, then morals.
The bottom line is that morals must come from only one source. If not from God, then the world must submit to the opinions of a few people.
