The primary responsibility of the president is to carry out the duties of commander-in-chief. Kamala Harris is grossly unqualified to fill that position. The only assignment she was given this year was to speak out in support of abortion. The last time she ran for president the Democrats in California were very critical of her qualifications. The Democrats need to have a legitimate primary and select a qualified candidate.

The notion that Donald Trump would be a dictator is absurd. This has as much credibility as the Russia hoax that was perpetrated against Trump for the first three years of his presidency. He is committed to the Republican platform and the constitution, not Project 2025, which is a Heritage Foundation initiative. The hysteric rhetoric that Trump would be a dictator and end democracy needs to stop.

By bowing out, Joe Biden made a smart move for his own good, especially after the attempted assassination on Donald Trump, because Joe, who already had four presidential years in the books, had nothing more to gain and everything to lose.

If the accusations of what Donald Trump would do in a second term weren’t so dangerous and wrong, they might be comical. This type of rhetoric has been going on for nearly 10 years and may have contributed to the attempt on his life. Voters should listen to what he says instead of the wild claims pushed by pundits on television.

Mahoning County commissioners must treat all workers and businesses with respect. Contracts should not be awarded based on bias toward union membership. Maybe time for change in the commissioners’ office if they can’t be fair.

Donald Trump is the one who has created this dangerous political environment that allows for hate and violence. He’s the one who called for the execution of those he feels wronged him; he’s the one who embraces hate groups like the Proud Boys; he’s the one who uses Nazi words and phrases; he’s the one who predicts a bloodbath if he loses. And the list goes on. The word “bulls-eye” is not in the same category.

Onions to The Vindicator’s editorial staff who selects Letters to the Editor submissions. A cabal of five to six disrespectful complainers, almost 100% Democrat leaning. Week after week you can set the clock to read attack style letters. According to the Letters’ policy “letters may debate an issue, but should be respectful and should not attack a person or organization.” If you’re not careful, “a politically Independent publication” as is touted will be just more …. umm Malarkey!?

Anyone disappointed by Biden’s debate performance and questioning his viability should do so. That right will end under Trump. Having voiced your lack of confidence, do one of two things — put forward a candidate who can mount a successful campaign in the three months remaining until the election and defeat the 2025 menace, or support the most successful president in recent history to do the same. If you can’t do either, enjoy remembering, for the foreseeable future, when your vote was important.

No doubt that this is the Land of the Free — free lunches, free medical, free tuition, free rent (a.k.a. subsidies), free utilities, free roofs and freeways.

“Is college worth it?” in the July 13-14th Tribune Chronicle. I am always amazed, and saddened, that articles of this type, which question the worth of a college education, make no distinction between a degree in medicine or engineering, and a degree in, say, gender studies. I went to a college that taught only engineering, and there were no concerns about its worth, or about indoctrination or political bias. We also didn’t have student demonstrations, and this was during the Vietnam War.

It’s distressing that many fail to understand, and even misrepresent, the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. Instead, they focus only on the impact it has on the most recent occupant. It protects all presidents, past and future, including the current occupant who could be indicted for numerous crimes. Presidents must be permitted to make decisions in the best interest of the country without having to worry if some future administration will seek to indict them.

I believe one of the main reasons this country is so divided is Donald Trump’s insistence he won the 2020 election. He has convinced enough people even though. He probably knows he lost, but because of his ego, he can’t admit it.

Every person killed by “gun violence” was shot by another person. We get together after work and shoot targets, while in Youngstown they have a neighborhood party and shoot each other. How fortunate we are to own non-violent guns. Have those who push for gun control thought how much they’ll be needed once their puppeteer’s agenda is realized? We need to face real, hard facts to deal with crime, but deal with it we must. There are no firearms on parole.

The difference in world views of President Joe Biden and felon Donald Trump is easily understood as Biden seeks allies and Trump uses abettors. Vote for Biden and stop the global menace of authoritarians.

For those of you who believe in a democracy and are unsure whether a Trump presidency will lead to a dictatorship, you need to read Project 2025. They plan to replace civil servants with Trump loyalists reporting to Trump. They’ll remove regulations that protect cities like East Palestine. They’ll set up mandatory military service, national abortion ban, reduce efforts to fight climate change and many more.

Makes no sense to still keep downtown shut down and businesses losing money to try to save a blown-out building. Now you want to check for seismic activity? Your square is shut down, you are leaving businesses losing money and your constituents without their homes and leaving a building in imminent danger of collapse. Why would you want to leave your downtown shut down for an undetermined amount of time or leave other properties at risk of also collapsing if the building falls north or south?

Welcome to Warren, home of pizza shops, dollar stores, and tattoo parlors! How welcoming this city is! Now, to add to all of this glamor, there is the possibility of a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) in Courthouse Square, unquestionably the gem of Trumbull County. With crime and homelessness apparent in downtown Warren, that is the last thing that should be considered. Where are events such as Kenley Players and Ohio Chautauqua that used to provide summer cultural entertainment?

Recently, our wonderful new Animal Charity facility has opened to provide a much-needed service. We’re fortunate to have several animal shelters in our area. But it doesn’t address the terrible problem of pet hoarding and abuse. Report if you suspect it. Donate to these wonderful organizations and please spay or neuter your pets. If you find or know of stray animals, provide food and shelter, or take them to a shelter, they will not survive on their own outside.

I often wonder what % of school budgets are used for transportation costs.

In 1969 as a freshman, Youngstown did not have busing for high schools. Elementary did not need them as we had neighborhood schools. We survived and thrived. We walked as a group and had fun or we bought a YTA pass for bad weather. Fifty-five bus routes in Youngstown, the news says. At what cost is that vs. educating students?

• Girard

Joe Biden stumbled badly in his debate with the GOP candidate. As the hand-wringing gets into high gear, I still prefer that a stumbling old man who repeatedly stands to speak truth to lies, freedom to dictator-wanna-be authoritarians, medical facts to party religious hypocrites, economic reality of poverty to self-serving billionaires, should steer the ship of state than a rabid liar.

Trump will agree that he’d abide — not abiden — by the November election outcome if: 1). Dem-friendly dropboxes are not used again 2). if prospective voters are properly documented and legitimately counted and 3). that a half-year window is not permitted so that procrastinating voters have enough time to get to the polls.
