Dollar stores needed in some local areas

DEAR EDITOR:

Capitalism is the ultimate democracy. Capitalism will thrive without stifling bureaucracy.

Austintown recently had a second dollar store open right next to a dollar store. Finding out it could not compete, it is quickly shutting its doors. Left unhindered, business will take care of itself.

Youngstown proposed a ban on dollar stores, gas stations, car lots and repair shops. Council member Jimmy Hughes got it right when he said that is all we have right now. I agree with him. Do not get rid of the services people need while writing up a wish list.

Business supplies needs and wants. These businesses are a need for those that do not have the time or resources to get to other places.

It is amazing council members did not mention eliminating bars. I would bet there are more shootings and drugs dealings at bars than at dollar stores. They should be working on the drug trade that keeps people numb to the killing of their children and grandchildren.

If you want to have a business to bring in healthy food options, you need to have a demand for healthy food options. I am sure your convenience store owner would sell apples, carrots and bananas if it was more profitable than cigarettes, candy and beer.
