I hope the upcoming solar eclipse experience reminds us that we are living on a rock, a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark, spinning around an ordinary star hanging in a vacuum in the suburbs of a galaxy, one galaxy among billions, and that there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

April 7 will mark five months since voters approved Issue 2 and yet Ohioans still cannot purchase recreational marijuana. Apparently, your “commentary” last month criticizing the Ohio legislature for “dragging their feet” on drafting a bill that opens up marijuana sales to the public has had zero effect. Reliable sources tell me that Gov. DeWine has instructed the Republican-led legislature to take their time drafting a bill.

The decision made by Trumbull County commissioners to allow nonessential county employees the opportunity to leave work early with pay to experience the eclipse is unconscionable. As a full-time employee in the public sector, I go to work every day to provide for my family. I was not given this opportunity nor do I expect to be. But, with my tax dollars, these employees will be able to “share the experience with family.” I wish I could do the same.

Our outgoing commissioner is the only one that keeps a watchful eye on wasteful or overspending of our taxpayers’ dollars. I’m sure many working people would like to see the eclipse but will not be given the time off to do so “with pay.” When Ms. Frenchko is gone we will only see more of this as the “good old boys, scratch my back I’ll scratch yours” practice returns in full force.

Illegal immigrant families are getting more compensation than the families of the military families who are protecting us! Now Biden wants to pay for the replacement of the Francis Scott Key bridge that the Dali cargo ship destroyed while killing six of our citizens! He is no President of the people unless they are foreigners. He has bankrupted this country throwing money at every foreign entity with no consideration of the actual working citizens. He is more demented than crazy.

People of faith who are offended by an ex-president hawking a Bible containing the Constitution might consult their Bibles. Proverbs 4:7 says – “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” With that in mind, consider what understanding Trump has of the Bible or the First Amendment. That’s your best candidate? This is likely the least offensive thing he’s done and nothing compared to what he will do if elected.

By now we have probably heard almost all of the lies, fabrications and conspiracy theories from Trump, so why keep giving him so much press time when we know everything he says is nothing more than another one to add to the list? He is playing his charlatan’s game, holding his supporters captive. They think he actually cares for them, while he begs for their money. He is a crook with no shame whatsoever.

I cannot believe the propaganda that the economy is better and there are more jobs because we have 10,000,000 illegals to care for. How about automobiles are double the cost and food is off the charts. Also, retirees can no longer afford homes and food due to inflation and costs created by no less than four wars in three years! Biden has forgotten that Americans matter. I am ashamed of our figurehead president.
